Thin Yellow Tang

I've had this Yellow Tang for a few months and he's had some problems. He had ich and HLLE in QT, I got him back from hell and put him in the DT. A week went by and I noticed he had really bad string poo, so I dosed the entire tank with prazi pro. since then he has been eating like a champ.

The one problem he has now is he won't eat anything but Nori. I've been putting vitamin drops on the sheets everyday with garlic, but he is still super thin. I've tried mysis, frozen cubes, NLS, flakes, and he's not interested in anything but nori. how can I get him to gain some weight back? Will the nori be enough over time?

Take the nori away from him and try the frozen again. It will eat when it's hungry, they generally are not picky. I have never heard of a fish refuse frozen brine. Good luck.

Try it all. Offer everything a few times a day and it will eat. Once eating other mixed/meaty foods start offering nori a few times a week again.. Try sprirulina brine and NLS pellets.

Yellow tangs are omnivores and will benefit from frozen foods as well as pellet and flake. They eat just about anything. I'm not really sure if the nori alone would bulk up the fish. The reason I said take it away is because you said he eats nothing else.

I would try soaking all the frozen you currently have in garlic and selcon. Personally I make up enough food for 4-5 days. Keep it in the fridge with just enough water to cover the food and add the garlic and selcon. I do 8-10 drops of each. Brine, baby brine, mysis, rods original, cyclopeeze, plankton, and fish eggs are what I feed. As far as pellet you could try Sustainable Aquatics hatchery diet. I've had lots of fish not eat nls but everything eats SA.

wow thanks for the info everyone! I will mix a cube of mysis with a cube of formula one and see what happens over the next few days. I have the NLS pellets in a auto feeder for the anthias, but the yellow tang doesn't have an interest right now. the powder blue on the other hand LOVES the pellets. The PB really eats EVERYTHING.

Soak the sheets in water with the fozen foods that way they take on some of the other foods scent. Maybe it will intice him to try the other stuff. He will come around eventually

I thawed out 2 cubes and put it in garlic and vitamin solution. I'll put a bunch in there tomorrow and see what happens.

-1 on the Garlic + 1 on the Selcon. Garlic is bad for fish. Selcon by itself does great job in getting fish to eat.

you guys were right! he's eating both the mysis and the formula one. how much should I be feeding a day for the two tangs? I used to rip a nori sheet into 4 sections and put one section in a day. the two tangs would graze on it all day. I'm not sure how much of the frozen stuff I should be feeding though. half a cube a day?
