Thinking about adding some chromis's

I managed to get 5 Green Chromis's on hold at the LFS here, but I'm not sure yet. I was thinking it would be nice to have a school, but I was curious if people are happy with them?
I currently have a 90 Gallon tank, with a yellow tang, 2 false percula's, 1 diamond goby, and 1 firefish, as well as 2 scarlet shrimp, snails, hermits, and emerald crabs (plus some corals). I'm attempting to add another color into the mix as my pseudochromis tried to eat my shrimp, so we got rid of him.

i cant stand mine. I have 4 and ave not been able to get them out.

Green Chromis are great little fish, but after some time they start to pick off the littlest one until your left with only one or two. I had seven, and it took over a year to happen, but it happened. There are a few threads on RC that talk about this.

Is there a reason you don't like them?

I know a local that has (guessing) maybe 8 in his 120 for years, and they are all doing great. Not sure if his are blue or green however, but I don't think that would matter. I do know he takes a LONG time to feed his tank. Makes sure everything gets food and no waste, well, minimal wast gets into the water column. Good luck with your desicion!

I just bought 5 chromis and four days later I only had the one. The dominant one killed the others off. I will give them one more try though as I really like them.

I started with five. within a couple of days was down to three. Bought two more bringing me up to five again. About a week later I was down to two. Bought three more a couple of weeks later down to one. I have had one Chromis for about four months now. Funny thing is, he was the smallest of them all. His name is Joe Pesi

I had 5 and they were fine together for several months, now I have 1. He is now 4 years old.

I had a group of five and they were also fine for almost a year and then one by one they got picked off by the only one that is now left. My husband calls him the bronx street bully

I have had much better luck with my school of mollies

I have three and all three cornered a lyretail anthias i have and killed it, i am in the process of removing all three as we speak..dont want to take a chance with the new fish im adding in the next month!

Hmmm...this seems to explain why when I bought 3 green chromis, 2 always grouped together and 1 was always hiding. Now I think the 3rd is MIA.

Other than that I like chromis.

Go with anthias. There was even a poll on this in the fish forum. I think very little people get to keep chromis in their school in the end. Maybe if it was a very large tank, not sure.

Well I was aware of the risk as well. I just bought five last week, and so far I still have all five. I won't be too excited if they start killing each other though. I don't want one I want 5. So I'm crossing my fingers for awhile

The only problem with Anthias is no where sells them here. I don't order livestock online due to not being able to be around to get it. Even with that, they are expensive compared to chromis's.

I bought 5 tiny blue/green chromis about 6 months ago and all are doing fine. They are all about double in size now. And yea, you can't beat the price.

I second Anthias, and most lfs will order in fish if you want them....just make sure they are healthy before you pay for them!~

My five Chromis were about 30 bucks.
Actually I traded a Frogspawn for them and some live rock.

I bought 6 Chromis 3 years ago, still have all 6. They have never killed each other or anything else. Mine are the blue/green colored ones.

Same situation for me. Mine killed each other off and the only survivor was the smallest. He has done fine for several months now that he finished off all his siblings. If you want to try them though Live Aquaria has them on sale this week for $2.99! Except it costs $35 for shipping.

I got one and have one. He's very well-behaved with small fish, just a bit ditzy, and obsessed with food.
