Thinking about going bare bottom

I am considering going to a bare bottom in my 55 gallon. I am looking for information from some people that have bare bottoms, or have had them. Or if you just have info.
I am looking for the pros and cons. Also looking for what type of filtration would be best, wet/dry, sump, both, neither?
Thanks for any help in advance.

Quick re-cap.

Live rock, LOTSA Flow, and heavy overskimming

I'm about two steps away from getting rid of the sand in our tank too....

WOW, were do I find the origional first page to start reading that thread?
All it did was jump me around, but never to the first page that started the whole 140+ page thread. LOL.
Thanks for the link though.
I am looking to do this is a zoa dominated tank if that makes a difference.

That thread's been going for quite a few years now.
I'll see if I have the original link.
It starts with a fellow named Bomber who lives in the Keys and put together an amazing tank!
He has a couple of PHD's in marine sciences - so there is a lot of really good stuff at the start....
And as usual it gets nasty when some idiots start spouting off...........
Unfortunately Bomber hasn't been around for a while........

Found it!

Here is the first page:

And here is picture of his tank (as of 8/3/03) prior to going BB.

Like I said - it's been around for a few years,
Unfortunately the pics of his tank BB are gone........

Happy reading!!

I would interested in that but I just wonder how it would affect your choices of livestock. I mean, I would image a mandarin would be impossible to keep in a BB tank?
