It really depends on your budget. If you want something inexpensive then go with a standard 20 gal tank. I'm actually starting a 20 gal nano myself and it is really getting expensive. Here are the list of things that recently purchased.
20 Gal Glass no top $20
Black Stand $100
18 Gal Glass Sump $30
Overflow Box $40
Mag Drive 5 $50
Maxi-Jet 900 $15
2 U-Tube Return $13
Current PC Fixture 2 x 65 Watt $125
ASM G1 Skimmer $200
As you can see, it gets really expensive really fast. This is not even including any live stock, live rock or live sand. This hobby is definately for people with deep pockets. I was really debating on getting Metal Halide, but it was about $200 more than I wanted to spend and also I would have to invest in a chiller. So I eventually decided not too. I'm gonna stick with lower ligt level corals and mushrooms. Well hope this helped.
