Thinking Bare Bottom

I often think of bare bottoms come to think of it.

Anyway, I'm tossed between bare bottoms and substrate. Seems like I always have issues with new tanks and sand. Especially it blowing all over with the high flow I use in SPS tanks. BTW, I'm setting up a new 225. I figure that if I go BB and don't like it I can add sand, but if I go sand and don't like it then it'll be a pain to switch. I have a 150 gal already that can keep its sand and convert to a softie tank and move all my SPS to the 225.

Good or flawed logic?

I see no reason why not to at least try it. Just keep up with regular maintenance, strong protein skimming, very high flow, etc.

You have to talk to a member names Bomber!

I already have sand and am going to convert to BB.

Trust me talk to Bomber and you will wonder why you ever thought about using sand.

What equipement are you planning on using in this system (specifically)? If you are going to remove a large portion of the biological filtration then it needs to be supplimented by strong, well-thought-out, over-rated for the tank, mechanical filtration (flow/skimmer/etc). Post what you plan on using and we can give you an idea of where potential issues might start.

I plan on about 200 pounds or more of live rock. I will be using a AquaC EV skimmer, Korallin Calcium Reactor, 4 250w MH with T5 actinic supplementation. 35 gallon sump with 40 gallon refugium. UV sterilyzer. Tunze streams for flow. This is stuff I already have.

Tanks dimensions are ~72"Lx24"Wx30"Deep.
