Thinking of adding a Crosshatch

Yeah, the process & cost of collecting & acclimating deep water fish sure justifies the price, IMO. Right about the Asian market too; there is a huge demand for many fish and many buyers with big bucks. Just look at what some Koi (ugly carp, IMO) sell for!

agree...sad to see the fish we lose to their market...and the prices they get are obscene...and this sometimes affects us...witness the sweet interruptus that dd has up....2500 is insane for that fish...1200, maybe 1500 and they were gone in 2 minutes....remember when frank b sold them for six hundred....

Even worse; I saw that an American paid $7500 for a cat! A good dog, like my Springer is worth it; but a CAT? Do you know how many cats you can get for $7500, or free? (People should pay YOU to take them!).

I saw a female crosshatch, about 6-7" in NJ lfs today . They were selling it for $450!!! For a female i believe that is way too much. I think some retailers are charging way too much for some of these fish though rare compared to the price they get from their supplier.

Anyone knows why crosshatch triggers never seem to come in smaller than 5-6"? I've never seen a 3-4" crosshatch for sale!

I agree with Tuskfish on this, they are harder to come by partially because the smaller ones are more reclusive and also because suppliers will sell them direct when they get them. I was on a waiting list for a very small one a while back direct from a diver. With that said you occasionally see the small ones available, divers den had one in the last month/few weeks.

you will never see a very small one...5 inches is just about the smallest...most are around 7ish...talking 400-500 plus feet for the lil ones...

I wouldn't say never. I have personally seen them at Diver's Den and at Old Towne Aquariums in Chicago had one as of 2 weeks ago that was definitely 4 inches or less. It was a lot of money though, don't recall exactly, but something like 700, lol.

cool, i dont consider a 5 plus inch specimin very small, dd had a 5.50 recently, that is the smallest they have had recently...we will not see specimins from 1, 2, 3 or up to 4 plus inches...same with pinktails, goldenbacks, and a few others...too deep, rebreathers and closed circuit systems needed...if down at that depth, they are going for personatus...pia, did have a small pair, a month or so ago.....male was 5.5 inches...female was just under 5....$1,000.00, i think?...that was the smallest pair i have seen in years...and they were documented as an abnormality due their small sie and the relatively shallow water they were collected in...collected after a storm...

would love to see pics of the under 4 incher you have seen!

I wish I could provide a pic. I just happened to be in the neighborhood, so I stopped at that store, but I don't live anywhere near it. They had a very nice collection, Joculator, couple blotched anthias, a pretty cool rare african basslet(don't recall the name but it was like 1500), among other things I don't remember off hand. The crosshatch they had(may have) was definitely the smallest I have seen.

sounds like a great store! what was the joc going for?

$800 for the Joc if I remember correctly. I emailed them to ask for pics of the Crosshatch, but didn't receive any pics when they responded. It was verified that it is 4 inches in total length however.
