Thinking of getting back in

Hey all-

I've been around the CMAS forum for a few days and it's great to see some people are still around. I've been out of the hobby for over 3 years and I'm thinking of getting back in. The kids are 3 years and 18 months now, so they keep asking about getting fishies.

What's the new fad? When I left everyone was playing with Vodka, how'd that ever end up?

I'm looking to get back in with something simple like a 28 gallon nano cube. Then eventually move back up to a 90 like I had before I left.

Just wanted to say hi again and hopefully I'll be bugging you all for advice again soon.

Matt

People use vinegar now instead of vodka.. other than that, not too much else has changed.

It's great to see locals getting back in... let me know if you need anything.

Aquapros in Glen Ellyn is a good all around store. Not overly impressive looking, but great prices on fish, coral and dry goods. A lot of people hype Reefwise in Lisle, but personally I don't think they are that great. Fish and coral prices are higher, although he gets a lot of rarer fish. Of course, Reef Plus is still around, but never has anything great in the way of coral and his fish prices are high.

Hello fellow Plainfielder, LEDs are easier/cheaper now, and I'd go so far as to say preferred by many. My kids are about the same age and I just got back in a while ago too.

hello Caragol. I think you were trying to get out the same time I was. I'll definitely have to do some more reading about LEDs then.

I didn't try so much as my tank crashed on my while on vacation. Heater died in winter and I had the house temp set to 60. Came back to gallons of nice smelling soup. I got back in with a standard 29gallon glass tank. Put a little mesh basket of chaeto on the back wall and a hydor power head and called it a day. Easy-peezy.

You can go the simple route, par38 bulbs that you screw into whatever socket, or get a larger Chinese fixture which have generally proven reliable. Then there are a host of name-brand fixtures that will come with nicer performance and warranties, but there's a higher cost.

Have I told you all lately how much I hate you!!!! Ok maybe hate is a strong word, but dislike you all. :)

I was "thinking" about getting back in and 2 days later, some how I'm cleaning a 28 JBJ Nano Cube with new lights on the way. You all suck!!!

HAHA I'm happy to be back in this hobby.

He never responded to my VM. I found one in Plainfield, right down the street from me for 150 so snatched that one up.

Hey Ostrow.. good to see ya again. I will definitely be needing those. Planning on doing a mixed reef again so once everything gets going I'll start looking to buy frags.
