i am thinking about getting an anem and a mated paid of clowns. what do you guys think would be a good combo for my tank.

lighting 3-250 watt mh's 14k and 220 watts of vho actinics
flow about 3000 gph from return and closed loop

tank is 36" tall rock work stacked to about 26 inchs from lighting
sand bed is 2 inchs deep mixed rubble and fine sand.

have a large torch and bubble coral in the tank along with 2 blue chromies, 5 inch sailfin, 5inch sohal tang ang a bristle tooth tang and a 3 strip damsel.

thanks for any help

Go with Maroons. They are tough, will hold their own in your tank and they might even live in your torch. Don't get them an anemone and they will probably go for it. Then you don't have to worry about the higher amount of care, possibility of moving, death.

If you insist on a nem, go with a bubble tip. One of the easier ones to start with.

I agree with the above posters: A BTA (bubble tip anemone) or Rose BTA would be the best to start with. I think your system will be fine for them, just be careful because anemones love to wander and will kill your corals if they wander into them. Overall I think a nem would fit your tank great and make a beautiful colorful display, especially when being hosted in by a clown. I don't know off the top of my head the natural host for BTAs, but I am sure others will chime in. I believe there is a hosting chart in this forum but I am not sure

Check This link out for some good info on btas and rbtas :)

BTA's are the easiest to deal with.

I've had my BTA's walk into my SPS and while the 'nems do sting the SPS, they have never killed them. The SPS polyps just close up and wait till the nem is gone. Perhaps I just got lucky.

yeah, depends on the contact, you can
get lucky
but regardless a wandering anemone is detrimental to your reef (especially heavily stocked tanks where contact with other corals is inevitable). You may not have any problem with this, and your anemone just stays put, but I am just bringing as food for thought.

i really like the carpet anems, is this something that would do good in my system? as far as water par its all reef quality but do have 0.5 of nitrate

carpets are harder to care for. Personally I'd never buy one from LFS, only from a fellow local refer who has had the 'nem for a while so you know it isn't slowly dying.
