Hey [emoji1366] Johnny,
Any more progress??

Slow progress. Got the tank 2/3 filled and will start cycling rock. Plan to run it this way for a while, while I work on light rack and plumbing. Will probably throw in a skimmer and some CUC and maybe a few fish to keep the biological cycle going

I love those dimensions. are you going to use more rock?

Not sure. I want to keep it pretty open, and room for corals to grow.

I plan to keep a good amount of siporax for additional biological filtration

Hammerhead or tigershark pump can handle the load! Unless your doing it to preserve planktonic life?

I have a few big pumps, but trying to be mindful of electricity usage. I'm already using 2,000 kWh without this tank set up. I want to try to keep it below 3,000 kWh a month lol.

My roof only allowed me to put up a 6kw solar system

Built this stand-alone flat rock, trying to see what to do with it

I really love the open look, and I like these structures that you build! And I like the standalone rock. You're gonna have to teach me how to build these things!

Sure thing, head to emarco and order one of his 15 pound kits.

I ordered 2 of them to do most of my creating.

Creating bases take a good amount of cement, to give it footing.

Looks nice. I like the rock work as it is so dont add much more Im sure adding corals will increase the amount of rock. I would add a larger grain sand or mixed grade crushed coral sand. I really lime the look of sand in a reef tank. Sand also add surface area for bacteria and reflects some of the light back up. A skimmer will help clear the water up even a smaller one for temporary use.

Right on!

I am adding some coarse grain sand now

Threw in 4 6105s to get the water moving for cycling

https://youtu.be/peed2LmWXZA

I also added about 5 rocks from my establish system to seed some bacteria

Additionally, I dosed 50 ml of zeobak, 150 ml of zeostart and 40 ml of spongepower to get things started.

Zeo cycling gets pricy!!

Looks like you are making good progress Johnny

I'm reusing old sand. Trying to keep to a budget, even though I know using old sand is a risk.

Rising old sand and then adding it in, taking a while.

I'll run it for a while and Test for phosphate.

I plan to add some CUC and maybe a fish or two in about 2 weeks

What reading do you think this is at?

To my eye 5.0+. Whats ammoina at? Yeah Zeovit is way to $$ IMO, our hobby is pricy as it is so i do t feel the need to spend all the money in Zeo products but many people run awesome reef tanks using Zeovit. I like Microbacter7 for seeding and bacterial dosing and IO Bio Spira for seeding. Both are cheap and proven to work, they have worked very well for me in the past. Man your skimmer is going crazy right now, love it lol. As long as you rinsed the old sand you will be fine. Its not like they make new sand, it comes from the oceqn and needs to be cleaned as well.

Yea I think I'll pick up some cheaper bacteria to help it along.

That's a tiny skimmer deltec 1455 just doing a little skimming
