This is insane (prices)

Due22 - edit on the kelvin part - the lower the kelvin rating (such as when I had it under iwasakis) the lighter the green becomes.

Steve - thanks for the props :D

Thanks for the info. It really is a stunning piece in person.

"I'm already planning on visiting Rich (sandollar) and Tim (tfp) since they are somewhat local to WMC."

I've seen Tim's tank a couple of times and am always impressed. Very unusual rockwork packed with great corals. I'd say about 50% of my corals have come from him.

Looks like selling frags on ebay is the way to go! That is hilarious that someone would spend $490 on a frag. Anyone that has one and wants to trade for a GARF bonsai frag let me know :)

Not sure about the auction price.....but on his site it is 100 for a med frag. List only though....contact him b4 its 3 pages long. I am so excited because I really wanted the Bonsai for a long time but wanted to get one either from GARF or someone that you would know your getting the real thing. Getting it wed though....can't wait!

What did that piece end up going for? If I weren't moving soon, I'd likely have kept a closer eye on it. The colors are simply amazing...what type of coral is it anyway? I don't recall it saying in the ad.

BTW, good score on the Bonsai, nice piece.

Hi John!

Keep up the good work! It is great to see you got the SPS bug again :) I need to stop by and check out what the tank is doing these days. BTW that purple bali table you gave Palletta and I is doing great!

Thanks for the support fellas and FWIW I discounted the item with a majority of my commission on the lemonade - it was way more than I expected and felt sheepish with the price :eek2:

is that what I called it - a bali table. It think it was one of those oddities out of Fiji though. Mine has grown quite a bit but have it under Iwasaki right now and needless to say it ain't all that pretty looking under sakis. Still rebuilding the collection though after the neglect from last year when I almost got totally out of the hobby.

pink sprinkles=$204

I can say that I didn't ask nearly for that amount right when the auction ended ;) and invoiced the winner.

The corals on ebay are coming from Tubs himself. I sniped you on the GARF bonsai....last second is my style....I suggest a good max bid next time. J/K Picked up the tyree leather too.
As far as the slandering these are some of the best known people in the industry and if you do not like the coral or the price then do not by any means bid on it, but it then also none of your buisness what others will pay. You will not find better service anywhere.
490 is a lot do not get me wrong, but you did not get the bill for it either so why talk crap. Props to Tubs and SniperSPS for having a beatiful selection and a record frag sale...even if you did discount it which is awesome!

I did not open this thread to talk crap, nor do I think anyone did except about the price paid on the one specific coral. I think everyone agrees Tub's website is awesome and has so stated. I was just floored by the price achieved on this particular frag. It was amazing and I thought it warranted a thread. Again - no bashing intended.

John,
You're just too nice of a guy.
Just another example of your kindness and generosity. Won't even take what someone is willing to pay.

Wow if it was from Fiji that is even better. Anything from Fiji that can hold this intense coloration is a keeper! You need to stop by one of these days and check out the new 225.

Tubs, doing that could get you in big trouble with Ebay. It also makes the whole bidding process useless.

Thanks for the tip - the buyer was picking up additional items and gave him the significant discount via an outside invoice seperate from ebay. Either way I am not looking to use ebay much anyway - just here and there on occasion for exposure to new stuff. Really appreciate the tip !

Coral in Question?

David,

Looks very much similar if not the same - either way I'd equal that beaut with the pink lemonade/shades of fall.

One of the defining characteristics of the lemonade are its stringy polyps. This is seen in some acros - one of the polyps is elongated making it look stringy. If yours is like this then I would tend to say it is the same. If I saw it in person I'd know for sure.

yeah, wasnt trying to cause trouble, Ebay just seems to have issues with anything that changes the terms of the contract after the auction ends. If theres other stuff being sold at the time, you could probably just say its a bulk discount if they asked.

Rich - thanks. I've already had a few issues with them regarding external links and I can totally understand them trying to protect their biz.

Discounting the winning bid is really a testament to the type of individual John is. Anyone who's had the pleasure of meeting or dealing with him, would pretty much say he is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet in this hobby.

IMO, a rare SPS frag that's been cultured and established for years would warrant a $490 price tag far more than the 'not so rare', just yanked from the ocean, LPS that some of you gentlemen referred to earlier in this thread;)

The best possible ending to this story, would be that the winner eventually shared a frag with the fellow New Yorker that came in 2nd. Tubs-style!:D
