This yellow tang is getting on my last nerve..

Calappidae

Harlequin Shrimp
Every single thing added to the tank this yellow tang terrorizes.. nips the antennas off the cleaner shrimp.. rubs up on all the fish.. I just got a foxface for algae control and I can't even see it because the yellow tang keeps terrorizing it.. today it cut the foxface good.. Unless there's a solution to this problem it's going to the lfs.. I feed it nori and mysis on a daily basis.. it's in a 6 foot 125.. fully quantined prior to adding and It was one of the first fish added to the tank..

They can be bastards. Any chance you could catch him, separate for a couple days, then reintroduce? I've also heard of people using mirrors to distract, adding two more YTs, etc. I got rid of mine because him and my purple just couldnt get along...

Today I'm going to buy a red light bulb and replace the ceiling fan's light bulbs with red ones... I'll see if I can catch it by surprise tonight.

My kole eye has been destracted by it's reflection lately.. at first she was a little nasty back at the yellow.. but ever since I accidently ripped the black paper on the side of the glass the reflection has been distracting it..

I'll see what I can do... There's ALOT of caves and overhangs for it to hide in that has precious coral atop.. I hope it want notice getting evicted tonight.

Best bet to catch him is early in the morning when everyone is asleep and it is pitch black. Turn on the lights and they should drift out for an easy catch.

I had done this several times with Tangs and Angels. Most of them don't even realize what has occurred they are so out of it.

Yup. But that behavior is normal for an established yellow tang, especially in that sized tank.

I managed to catch it somehow... I got very annoyed as the foxface was getting very very ill like the more and more the tang swam at it.. I caught it, bagged it, and it's floating in the sump while a giant calico crab and a mantis stare it down.. I'll keep adding air, resealing the bag, and water changing every few hours.

How long should it remain absent from it's home?

it's a 4" yellow tang..
it's been terrorizing
5"foxface
1.5 inch blue hippo..
and 3.5 inch kole eye.

It chased a chromis but it can't catch up with them to do damage..

Having a reef tank myself, I know how much trouble it is to re-arrange rock.

But if you do actually re-arrange the rock, you can add the tang back in a week, or so. Otherwise, you may have to keep it down there for up to a month, or possibly more. This is because, the tang has established the tank as its own territory, and anybody that is new will be an intruder, especially other tangs or fish that have a similar diet. The current inhabitants need time to heal, and get comfortable at the minimum before the tang comes back to the tank. Even then, there's a chance the yellow tang may become a bastard again...

My yellow tang normally harasses newcomers for about a week, or so. After that, they become best friends.

My last go-round, I set up my QT right next to the DT in plain view. When I added the newcomer, there was minimal aggression...

Best of luck!!!

I'm going to be added a BTA soon and I'll probably have to relocate corals so they're not in it's way :)

Maybe that'll work.. I could float the bag in the DT the last few days just to get used to the fish.

I used to do this with cichlids. Either rearrange or someone was going to QT for a while. It allows the less dominant fish to establish itself. I've had good luck doing that.
