Thoughts about Build My Leds? (bml)

Hi. I ordered their 14000k spectrum and it should be here sometime this week. I was wondering what everyone else thinks about bml. What spectrum do you think I should add to the 14000k in the future to supplement it?
Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Hey you're just a short drive down the highway from me. BuildmyLED are spectacular. Commercial grade, waterproof strips using high bin diodes. They're efficient and sleek with fantastic color and spread. I've been absolutely thrilled with mine. That being said, due to the point source line of sight nature of leds, just one unit may cause some unpleasant shadowing If not carefully mounted. I would always recommend a minimum of two of these particular types of lights. If you are just going to try that one out for now, I would mount it toward the front of the tank and angle it backward, rather than straight down right in the middle.

I use two 14K six footers on 300 so I don't have to run my MH very long in the summer. On my wife's tank a 20 gallon I use one 12K XB which is super bright, not like typical Leds. The color of the 12K compares to ATI Aqua Blue Special. (Maybe too white for some)

Starting up a new tank, 36" by 30" by 27" deep, I was running a 400W Radium 20K with 4 T5's. I might drop it back to a 240W. I didn't like how gray blue the tank looked with ll sorts of T5 combos when they were on without the MH. I picked up a SUPER ACTINIC REEF SPECTRUM - XB SERIES, put it front of the MH/T5 fixture and what it difference it made. It's a more royal blue look. I have a single MH fixture and even thinking about run just a MH with this SUPER ACTINIC XB without any T5's at all. Once I get the tank cycled I will decide on the final lighting formal. BML folks are very nice and their product is well made.

If I were fitting up a whole tank with them id probably go with 2-20k and a super actinic. If I felt crazy and wanted a 4th I would get a 12k to get some dedicated greens and reds in there if nothing else for visual reasons.

I think you should wait to set up the 14K and see what you want than ask again. An answer I can give now would be a multi channel 20k or the soon to be released multi channel actinic/supplemental spectrum.

I am looking to supplement my two ai sol blues with the Super Actinic Reef Spectrum - XB Series. possibly ditching the sols all together and going back to halide with these as supplements as well. I have been fooling with these ai's for over three years now and have to say that the spectrum just isnt there......missing something . this could be my answer? before i dropp 250+ bucks for a led strip as a accent light who has these and do you think one would make a difference on a 60 gallon cube mixed reef?

Overall, I like my 20000K XB. You can tell that it's built well, and the price was terrific for my 48" unit. The tank mounts are extra, though, which I really think should have been included. I actually wish I bought the multi-channel unit that's now available so that I could bump down the white's a little. Also, know that the lowest you can dim these is 10%.
