thoughts on a tall tank

I have a 220 that's 72Lx24Dx30T and honestly I wish it was 24 inches instead of 30 because it's tough get to the bottom.

Nice tank! i have a 220 and thats the reason im looking for everyones experience. My 220 is a planted and its a pain to trim the plants on the bottom.

I have the exact same tank. I went with the 110g tall because the space I had for the tank was limited in length and I didn't want it too wide to where it stuck out in our living room. I didn't mind a little extra height (Actually looks good for viewing purposes, and several fish use the extra open room up top for swimming.) I don't really have to do much maintenance-wise on the bottom of the tank and I have a small step stool so it's not bad at all, IME. I have 2 Hydra 26 HDs lighting it (Mounted lengthwise, centered on each side of the tank.) Here's a fairly recent shot:

That is what i want my tank to look like! Awesome set up!! Was it a challenge to aquascape it? Also i see a butterfly fish in the pic? How does he do with the coral? I plan to do euphyllia and zoanthids mainly so i was trying to figure out if i could keep a butterfly in the tank.

Here's a pic of it when it was starting to get nice. I can't find a pic right now of it before the crash.

Nice tank! This one is not drilled so i think it will give me more room to aquascape in the corners. What i am wanting to do is a big structure on the right side that goes 1/2- 2/3rds to the top and then on the left side do a smaller structure that is 1/4-1/3rd tall. Im thinking of creating an arch between the two.

I have Very short arms I cant reach the bottom of my 24 inch tank. The bottom back i can barely reach with a stick standing on top of a 4 foot ladder.. I always end up with wet hair and sometimes my face touching the water GRRRRRR..

happens to me all the time with my 220 lol, when i first aquascaped it i actually stood inside the tank to get the wood and rock in place. Thats the reason i cant decide between this and a 90g 4 inches and its an added 20 gallons

I want to make the aquascape look somewhat like this, i dont want it to be a boring wall of coral, i want it to have different depths and angles that make it unique.

Thank you for the compliment. It wasn't too bad aquascaping it. Most of the stuff I moved over from my old cube tank about a year ago. I kept about half of the existing rock that had corals and added some new. The montiporas worked out good as I was able to put 1 on each side and then worked everything else in around them.

The mitratus butterfly, for the most part, is fine and has been a great fish. I don't have many soft corals in the tank so I figured he was worth the gamble. He's definitely one of the safer bets for butterflies in a reef outside of maybe a pyramid. Under the orange/pink montipora I have some green button palys he nips at a little but that's about it aside from picking at rocks, etc.

I have the tall deep blue 110g tank, it is very tough to aquascape because of the 30inch height. But i would prefer 48x24x24 if i were to start over. The reason i got the 48x18x30 is because i got a good deal for it brand new with stand n canopy. I guess if you have long arms it would be fine..lol...

I'm short too. It was very hard reaching the bottom. Had to submerge my arm to my neck. I really liked the height because of how much viewing area there was. Some fish would only swim up top. But honestly I would prefer a ??x24x24. The 18" front to back does hinder a lot of scaping. Well it did for me atleast. My tank now is 20" tall and I hate it. But you gotta work with what ya got.

Your tank not being drilled will really help with aquascaping. That corner over flow sucked. I would much rather have had a peninsula overflow or a coast to coast overflow.
