Thread got deleted

Well, looks like I've joined the club of those who got threads deleted for a perceived reason as opposed to true investigated intention. I posted that I had a left over twistlock flange for sale and it was deleted by a mod because I posted a picture of the original batch of them that I ordered and he ASSUMED I was buying these things in bulk or something. Is it just too weird that I would want my Skimmer, Kalk reactor, Sulfur Denitrator and overflow carbon canisters to match? I did build a small skimmer for a friend which is what I included in the ad to show what could be done with the twist lock flange but I fail to see any logic behind deleted the whole thread ?

There is no rhyme or reason it seems. I have even witnessed 2 threads completely OT. One gets deleted, the other not. The reason given for deleting was "it had nothing to do with reefing." Fine, but why not delete every OT thread then?

To me it just seems arbitrary, like whatever Mod happens across your thread at a certain time.

Things happen for a reason.

Someone probably reported Kentrobs thread, and that is why it was deleted. Not because a mod wanted to, they have better things to do, like giving the grease to all the squeaky wheels.

We have too many people on our board reporting post,
it really should stop. All out truths.

Howie,

We don't patrol around forums looking for OT threads to remove. They get reported to us, we look at them and say yep...OT...and remove it.

If the other OT threads you see don't get reported, we probably simply did not see it to remove it.

No conspiracy theory here...just facts. There's over 2,000 new threads per day on RC. Not a chance that we can read each one for content, so we rely heavily on users to help us patrol these forums.

Hope that helps.

Oh and Ken, we often remove threads like this to discuss them. If in our internal discussion and with the member we come to another conclusion, we can easily put threads back. But starting a thread like this is not going to help anything. Discuss your situation with the Moderator and work it out. Pot-stirring like this is not the way to a solution.

Yeah I had no clue OT were against the rules either... That's kind of disappointing.

Ok from what I understand so far... OT threads are against the rules only if someone reports them?!?

Seems a shame that a community like we have here in the saltwater hobby cannot just help each other with all facets of everyday life.

In addition to the umpteen million times I have had help with my tank from all of you on here (too many to list, but I thank every single one of you), I have also found great people for help with cars, lawyers, doctors of one sort or another, a/c guys, etc., etc.

It has all been useful information. I think there is some sort of disconnect with the line of thought that says we must keep to only one subject. Within a group like SLASH for example, I think that the free exchange of information on any topic creates a much closer knit community, thereby enabling us to communicate even more about the hobby we all love/hate/are addicted to, etc.

JMHO...

That is truly sad!

I think anyone one that feels the need to be constantly reporting people (for petty stuff) should simply contact the SLASH board members and see if they can set up a future event to a LFS and then to a WINEry

Some clarification is due here...in the club forums, the topics can be WHATEVER you want them to be...OFF TOPIC IS FINE.

Only if the thread or posts within the thread violate the user agreement will action be taken if necessary. Feel free to post like you always have and enjoy the forum.

We are here for friendship and can BS amongst ourselves all we want. This is kind of a club forum for reefs and lounge all in one.

As for Kent's initial reasons for starting the thread, that is something he can work out with that particular moderator and is best left out of this discussion.

I just think that if you're going to sneak around and report posts to mods you should at least be man (or woman) enough to confront the person who made the post in question and confirm that your suspicions are correct before you start an issue over nothing.

I agree Dave but in this case the mod in question has yet to get back to me after explaining myself to him. However you slice it, this site in it's entirety is NOTHING without the members who frequent it and that being said, our concerns should be taken seriously. There was no issue taken with deleting my post when someone with too much time on their hands decided to misinterpret the information provided in the thread and tattle to a Mod so why is it such a chore to discuss the issue with me and get the facts straight first? I've been an active, law abiding member of this place since early 2002 and I think at this point I deserve to my explanation heard and taken seriously in a situation like this instead of "take it to Ebay", period.

I say if Mods can delete a thread than they can close one per the request of the thread starter. for example...

I've seen many time someone is Proud of there tank and they post a picture with what they have in it and what equip. they have only too be ripped to Shreds by the "so called Reef GODS" who have nothing better to do than to criticize and get nasty with the thread starter because he/she does things his way and not the "Gods" way.

I would like a fourm where you can post your Pictures and what you have and using and not get critized by the "Gods"
A thread that only allows 1 post. The person who starts it.

A forum would not be a forum unless people can talk.

D-Rod you described a web page, create your own web page with your tank and what ever you want and give out the link, then no one can say anything about your page and can close the window if they don't like it.
