Three fish ++ DEAD????

I've had my tank up and running for six months, transferred over form a 100 gallon. Everyone was happy, healthy -- so I thought, until Monday, when I found two fish dead. One was my oldest fish, over two years old. One was my newest fish, about three months old. I've not seen another "old" fish, the Boss, my Bodianus.sp Peppermint Hog. And now today my Royal Gramma is gone. -- another oldie. WHAT'S GOING ON?

The only thing I can think of is my gardeners put down cow manure last week and the smell was horrific. Could that have an effect on the water? All test are within limits. NO4 is 0, NO3 is 0, Ca is 450, Mg is 1400, dKH is 9.5. Why are my fish dying?

The Hippo Tang and the Rabbit fish are okay. The Clown is fine. Even my MANDARIN is doing okay.

Anybody? Please help. What can I test for, if anything?

Get a water sample for testing.

But to save the others, or at least to do as much as can be done for the rest, run carbon, and change it every 2 days; and run polyfilter. I don't know about the cow manure, but it's going to have a lot of chemical business going on in the fumes, maybe ammonia, hard to say. What species have you lost besides the gramma and the hogfish? The only thing I can think of they have in common is that they're both midwater carnivores, and those that have come through alive are either midwater herbivores or low-swimming; but that's not telling much at all. Carbon, maybe some polyfilter pads, in case some fertilizer got in with the manure and was volatile enough to get aloft. So sorry to hear: it's a reefer's nightmare, the unexplained catastrophe---hard to know what to do except try to assure water quality asap. Have you done the old basic test for ammonia?

I tested for everything. I'm running carbon and rowaphos and I use two filter socks that I change weekly. I run Ozone and everything is controlled and changed on schedule. I change my water daily -- 3.5 gallons in/out every day. I did a 40 gallon watter change yesterday, that's what was left in my storage tank, just to be on the safe side.

I've got a Cardinal that is doing fine. He's always at the top ot the tank. Who know -- only the Shadow -- LOL.

I would say the manure is a good guess,---who'd have thought!--- and your excellent system saved the tank. So bad...but I'd say if it all checks out, you're probably going to save all the rest, and it's past its crisis.
