Thumbs up for Ozone!

when cleaning, do you all scrub, rub, etc. the probe (i have a milwaukee orp controller) or do you all just let it soak? thanks

I have a soft tooth brush that I gently clean it in case something is stuck on it. Other then that, I just swirl in vinegar. I let it sit about 4 minutes one time and it didn't do much. Last time upon advice of some of the guys here, I left it for 30 minutes and it helped a ton.

so you would only scrub only when there are calcium deposits or algae growth, for example? im afraid that heavy cleaning would damage the probe. is soaking in vinegar done regardless of whether visible crap is seen on the probe? do weekly soakings in vinegar reduce the life of the probe? thanks for the info.

I couldn't see a thing, not a film, nothing and mine dropped by almost 100 last time I cleaned it and it was only about 2 weeks old. I'm due up tomorrow if I stay at 1X a week. I've notice a creep of about 10-15 in just the last week and I bet it will drop back down that same 10-15.

i clean mine whenever i notice that the orp is higher than normal, usualy about once a week. then good thing though is when it is dirty it reads higher then it actually is, so worse thing is is that the orp in the tank drops until i clean it, not the other way around and run the ozone forever.

What's odd with mine is this.

I have the dual controller by Milwaukee. I noticed my co2 flicking on and off when I was messing with the orp probe. I thought...odd.

So I touched the orp probe and it actually turns on and off by touching it on the ph side. I never noticed it before but does your orp probe have a glass ball around it like a ph one because mine doesn't have one.

nope, no glass ball on it.

very odd about the controller though, must be some kinda of cross-talk inside the controller

Tim

Yea if I swish it around, the controller on the ph side will start flicking on and off and it's quite annoying.

My ozone safe check valves came in this week and I changed out my old non ozone safe valves and T fitting which is also non ozone safe.

I took several pictures of my process and I also replaced my C02 check valve from Tetra that is not C02 approved.

You can see all the residual crude that built up on the valve, had I not replaced it soon it would be sealed as I could hardly force air through it.

These check valves are really big...

did you get the tee from marine depot also? if so where would i find it (catalog #, whatever)? thanks i checked it out but they didnt state if its ozone safe or not or what type of plastic its made out of. thanks

ok thanks. yeah i was aware of us plastics but i was hoping you got both from the same place

quick question. if the probe is dirty, will it give a reading that is higher than expected, or lower? or does it depend on how in fact it is dirty. after a week a rather consistent readings of 370-375 today the meter reads 800! the ozone is not on so that could not be it (its not connected yet, until i get the feel of the controller), so can i confidently say that everytime it gives a high reading then the probe must be dirty? any ideas/thought would be appreciated.

It will give higher. Mine lasts about a week and jumps up around 70 points higher. Mine is 330 right now and last night it was about 410. With vinegar it goes up to about 590 and after about 20 minutes stays around 550. Once it hits that I know it's somewhat ready but I give it another 15 minutes.

I'm seeing a lot of users here talk about cleaning their ORP probes weekly because they see flux in reading.

My question is does anyone here experience a constant reading more than one week?

I've only owned mine for three weeks and after the first week I've been able to see consistency in my ORP readings with no cleaning.

I hover from 390 to 435 mv in a given day; this number fluxs only with feeding time.

And the ozone unit fires up for only 1 hour when she drops to 380 mv.

I have consistency with mine; does anyone else have the same experience as me?

Just curious.

Hey Mike, Yeh I'm consistent.......consistently bad ........ I'm at 298 as we speak....... Still dont have it figured out.

Did a lot of tweaking today. Glad to here your successes. Keep it going.

Mine is at 320 now but in a week it goes up over 400 without ozone so I see issues. It is in my sump so I wouldn't think it would get nasty that quick however crud could be getting on it so I guess it is possible

Jay,

Try running your probe in the main display to see if you get the same results.

I take you don't run Ozone just a monitor of your ORP? And then you get over 400 mv?

My reef made it to 326 mv without ozone and didn't want to climb at all after that.

Once I added the ozone she gradaully started to climb to a total of 425 mv.

My controller would shut her off at 380 and she will climb to 425 mv. I feel this is because the contoller picks up gradual amounts of mv as the tank stabilized with the amount of ozone that ran through the skimmer.
