Thumbs up for Ozone!

I only use carbon on top of the collection cup. I might also run some on the air exhaust of the gate valve mod.

As for the euroreef, here's what i did. I just ran another airline and inserted it into the intake of the pump so that it sucks up air. You don't need to stick it in so deep. If you want, you can just modify the existing pump intake by gluing another venturi inlet where the other one is. Then just get rid of the T and insert the ozone direct. That gives the skimmer more air. My skimmate has improved since i did this.

This morning it was at 325mv with just 15mg/hr.

Yeah I checked mine this morning, it read 315 mv as well, still not injecting ozone. My pump should be in today but I think I am going to give it another day or two.

For those of you injecting into a euroreef skimmer, did you put any carbon in a bag on top of the collection cup? Right now all my skimed water flows over a bag of active carbon so I am hoping that will be good to remove any residual ozone. What do you think?

what pump are you getting?? I cant see why you cant use any old cheap air pump.. have you ever been to FAOIS and seen his set up??

I went a head and ordered the Coralife Luft Pump. I had others around the house but most where high capacity dual output.

I have been to Johns many times, but didn't know he runs ozone...

he does on everything but the fish,, has a very interesting set up. uses a small peice of pvc where the ozone is fed and the skimmer draws from. the pvc is capped at the top and bottom. at the top an air intake hole is drilled. the bottom is also capped and holes are drilled for the ozone hose and the skimmer draw(side by side). ozone and air mix in the pvc and are drawn into the skimmer. ozone cant escape because of the pull of the skimmer. Let me know when you start yours up, I fooled with mine yesterday and my ORP reading actually went down when I started my ozone, from 320 to 307 in 10 minutes, anyone else experience this??

Join the club, I fired mine up as well and the ORP went down now it is starting to climb. It started at 335 mv then dropped to 320 mv now this morning I am at 355 mv. I have also noticed my skinamate is all but gone, very little production... we'll see what happends over the weekend.

the ozone generator I got from John is a large unit that came with an airstone. why couldnt you just inject the ozone into the tank using a pump with the airstone? Anyone?

You do not want to inject ozone directly into your tank. Bad news. Patience .......... Patience......... Ozone is a strange beast....

Well, I thought I'd show the difference. I did a side reflection shot which IMO is tough to do. I don't get a good clarity normally. With ozone running, it is pretty dang clear. Not to mention hard to do off a reflection.

Here are some updated pics on my reef, I wanted to give you guys a look at how clear my tank is; been running ozone for about 2 months...

If the ozone is off and the air pump is still on, will air sill pass trough the ozone unit?

yes... just without ozone. get a plug splitter and hook to comtroller/ozone so pump only runs when ozone is on

Thanks!
I actually want the option to have the pump to run all the time into my skimmer

Why? There is no need imo. The pump should pull what it is normally gonna use anyway. But up to you though :)

Well skimming production has all but stopped in my skimmer. I am injecting ozone into the skimmer, my ORP is hovering around 350 to 340 mv and I am injecting at a rate of 50 mg/hr, ORP setpoint is as 380 mv.... So question, has anyone else seen a drop in skimmer production after starting ozone injection?

I'm having the same issue, I think its more of an issue of the skimmer not getting enough air anymore. The skimmer needs to pull through a lot more hose than it used to.
