Question, when you are injecting ozone what happens to your PH? Reason I ask is because mine stays low as compaired to what it was before ozone injection. Does this make any since?
My PH was runnig from 7.8 in the morning to 8.1 in the afternoon. I had my calcium reactor to come on when the ph reached 8.1 and it would turn off when ph reached 7.9, it hasn't come on in three days now.

To my knowledge, ph does affect orp readings but I dont think ozone affects ph much if any. Something else must be going on in your tank. Maybe Co2 levels in the house.

the lower the ph, the higher the ORP... My ph hasnt been affected by the ozone.... Im probable injecting 50-75 mg....

humm...... I'm injecting 25 mg/hour in a recurculating skimmer.... and my orp has been steadly climbing... 360 mv currently

I opened all the windows in the house and now the ph is climbing.... interesting.... the poly filer does say if ph drops, change filter and do a water change.... changed the filter, but didn't do the water change yet, wonder if that has anything to do with it?

The PH will climb if you open your windows. Less co2 injected through the skimmer, and more O2 going in.

When was the last time you cleaned the probe? I get a false hight reading when my probe hasn't been soaked in vinegar for awhile.

hey all--


I'm just starting to o3 through my skimmer using an air pump and an air drier. I'm finding that the silica beads are getting wet in about 2 days, requiring me to dry them out in the oven. That's quite a pain to disconnect the drier from the system, bake them, then hook it all up again.

I'm also finding that if I have my skimmer tuned to pull simmate with the o3 on that if the air drier goes offline for this service that the skimmer reacts by basically totally overflowing into the drain cup and over the air holes in the lid top. It wasn't nice to come down with my feshly baked dessicant to see the skimmer acting like old faithful.

Are those using air driers experiencing this 2 day thereabouts cycle? Anything I can do to lengthen that period?

My 500g airdryer is over a month old and I haven't had to bake the beads; remember that I have a controller on the unit which regulates my Ozone.

It has about one quarter left in blue, almost ready to bake....

my small drier burns out quick too. Im more concerned about the ozone smell. mike, what do you do as far as odor/ozone removal?

where do you have your airdryer? i have mine sucking air from outside my stand away from the more humid air. if you have your air intake near your sump you will go thru amy air dryer quickly. try adding another piece of tubing so you pull air from a dryer more ventalated area

For me, I have my air dryer (250 g) about 3 feet from my sump. And it goes through the silica beads every 7 to 9 days. I have 2 lbs of it so I just re-fill with new material. I only bake once per month. Longer hose means more pressure drop.

Again, for me unless you are dosing HUGE amounts of O3, you should not smell it. When I was dosing 100 mg you could smell it on top of the skimmer. I only do 17 mg for my 75 and it is at 350 +/- 010 daily. No carbon needed.

yes... over both. I have a deltec and it moves a lot of air. i have a clearwater tech ozonizer that has a 300 mg capacity. doesnt have a specifically graduated adjustment knob but it is at about 15-20%.. I have a pc of wide pvc that acts as a catch for the skimmer output. in that I have a bag of carbon. I also have some carbon pad made by HBH that I fashioned a ring out of so all water has to go thru it,, I also have carbon on the exhaust holes

In the very beginning I could smell the ozone everytime it fired up if I stuck my head into the cabinet.

However, with the cabinet closed you could walk around the tank and not smell it; occasionally I would pick it up, if I sniffed around the sides of my tank like a dog in search of drugs.

What I did was place three small carbon bags, the ones that fit the AquaClear mini over both holes in the collection cup and one over the riser tube; we are talking Deltec Skimmer.

This would mask the smell pretty well.

But now, I hardly ever detect the smell of ozone in my cabinet, I have to really sniff around in the cabinet when it's running.

Remember that my ozone fires up only about 2-3 hours if that during a given day; I've read a lot that given good husbandry an ozone unit can be fired maybe once a month when the orp drops.

My ORP hovers at 400 mv mark +/- 20mv.....

I have a 200 gallon aquarium and decided to try ozone. My tank was quite clear to begin with, and I have not seen much improvement in the clarity of the water since running ozone.

What I have noticed is that it is hard to keep the OPR level up. When I started, the ORP was at 230. I am running a Gen-X 250 ozone generator with a Milwaukee controller - and running it through a venturi skimmer. I am also using the silicon beads to keep the humidity out of the generator. I find that it takes over an hour to get the ozone to move from 320 to 350, but only about 15 minutes for it to drop back down to 320. I am able to get it up to 400, but then the generator is running almost constantly.

Also, my corals have not changed/opened any more than usual.

Any thoughts on why my tank is having trouble maintaining the ORP level?

First is if you ORP without ozone was 230 it was not that clear. Just saying that since I thought mine was clear then I ran ozone. Now I see how bad people tanks look with ORP around 220 to 250. ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œPurple hazeââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ LOL

Next is with your tank size, it WILL take some time to bring the ORP up 30 mv. Then feed the tank, move stuff around and it drops, that is normal. I can drop mine about 20 mv just with a filter pad change or a feeding.

#3 how much mh/hr are you injecting? 10, 100, etc??? My thinking is low and steady. So I only do 17 mg/hr

Outside of that I do not know. Mine is around 367 to 347 during the 24 hour period. I am sure there is some linear relationshop between XX mv vs gallons.
