Thumbs up for Ozone!

thanks all. I'm going to move the air intake a few feet from the sump opening where it is located now. I'll see if that improves things.

My ozone is about 385 w/ 65mg/hr into 300 gallons with a very light load (7 fish inches no corals--brand new tank). It drops very quickly when ozone is not injected. I'm surprised by how much o3 it is taking and how quickly the orp drops when it's not applied.

mine drops quick too when the ozone is off... My tank is unbelievably clear with ozone.. I like what it does for my tank. But I still have issues with ozone fumes. I have carbon in a filtersock that collects skimmer output and carbon on skimmer vent holes. I have a divverent type set up than most and I will try to post pics tonite. and yesterday I had an almost disaster. got home yesterday and my AC jr had 5 of the plugs off on my dc8. including the skimmer and chiller pump. the first 3 light controlls(my halides) were on. the actinics were not. And my tank was up to 86.5. Im wondering if the ozone generator could be affecting the DC8 or ac jr? anyone experience any weird behavior from thier controllers after hooking up their ozone?

moving my air pump about 2' farther away from the sump has not made any difference on how fast my beads are getting wet, I'm sorry to report.

My milwaulkee came in today, I noticed the probe was packed dry.
When I dropped it in, it said the ORP was 100.
I know people have issueeswith new probes.
It's been on for a few hrs now and I have it up to 160.
Should I trust the reading to be correct?

Ti,

You need to walk away from your ORP controller for 5 straight days.

On day six take a look at the reading and then connect you ozone unit to it.

It needs that many days to calibrate, trust me on that.

Some say up to two weeks but mine kept rising for about two, then I gave it a vinegar soak and it dropped back to about what it was at the 1 week mark.

oops, too late.
I had the ozone going, it read 170 last night before I set it to shut off.
the probe came dry with a rubber cap.
I thought they were supposed to be shipped with a wet cotton.
Is my probe messed up?

after the vinegar soak.. do you have to wait another 5 days to calibrate?? took my pinpoint monitor out and soaked yesterday. before i soaked it it was at 325... after it leveled off after an hour at 285??. alfo i took a toothbrush to it gently and the pinpoint monitor made some very unhappy loud noises. anyone else have a pinpoint monitor/controller? whats your maintainance routine?

I only have a pinpoint probe on my Redsea. Usually I get max 10 days before cleaning. It is usually off from 10 to 15 mv on readings after that time length.

after reading randy h-f's article on ozone (part 2) I'm tending not to care much what the orp is as long as it'a between 350-450.

My orp is olding at 300 and I can get it higher. THe more I dose the lowre the reading/.

Ti, dont feel so bad. I cant get my ORP past 300 consistently. Works for some, not for others. I'm content with 295. My water is so clear my fish look like they're floating in air. Dont get hung up on numbers. If the fish are happy, I'm happy. :)
