Thumbs up for Ozone!

Zoom,

I'm about half way through the bottle of AZ-N02... What I have noticed is that my ORP will not climb over 310 mv with Ozone on full blast and fresh baked beads...

I posted this concern over on the Chemistry forum and Randy responded back that it might be the AZ-N03...

I think he is right because on MarineDepots website it says to watch the ORP while dosing with this stuff...

I doze each night about 8ml of the stuff and in the morning my AP600 picks up a lot of skimmate; it's white in color instead of the thick black/green that I'm use to....

Others have commented the same thing about the color of skimmate....

I'll post tommorrow my Nitrate; I use Salifert so the results should be pretty accurate. I had about 20 ppm of Nitrate before I started the dosing....

Ozone and Skimming

I run two ASM G3's. One with Ozone one without. The skimmer without is raised higher than the one with. The Ozone cup is the one on the right. Less skim and lighter.

So i take it that by running ozone i can't expect to see the foam spillage like i see on other's skimmers? I can only get it to skim on the wet side.

What is better let the controller turn off the ozone/air pump or use a small amounts of ozone all the time.
I always set my at max ozone setting and let the controller turn off the ozone/air pump at 350Mv.
Any one have any feed back on this ?
Thank you.

i would have to say small amounts... large amounts can damage the skimmer. Mine is a 350/mg unit I run at about 50-75 on my 240 gal system. runs for 10 mins and shuts off at 400. During the day it has to run a little longer because the higher the ph the lower the orp is and the harder the generator has to work.

My is only 100 Mg unit the ORP runs to the roof at night about 400Mv but in the day time ORP stays about 350 Mv with the unit running constantly .
Do you get any skimmate?
I get some mud in the cup and clear stinky water.

I get more now than before ozone, not as thick and dark as before the ozone. about the color of dark tea. Im happy with it

I would just let the controller do it imo. If you have a big 350mg that you can not dial down, then I would possibly try puting an ozone safe restrictor valve so you can. That's alot of ozone going in. I havea 50mg/h and I just let it run. Well I did and I haven't been using it in the last month. My skimmate has turned back to a deep brown and fills up much quicker.

anyone know where is the cheapest palces to get the sander or aquamedic units ? I remember someone posting a link to a website located somewhere up north in cali I think... I am looking at the 100mg/hr unit and cheapest I found was $219.

I am debating whether I should just get the 50mg/hr unit since some people are using the low feed and achieved nice clear water with it....like clkwrk..and my tank will be same as his, 180.

My 210 has the 50 mg/hr sander on it with no air pump and no air dryer and initially it got to 395 ORP but now it isn't raising past 320.

I have 100Mg Red Sea why pay the extra $$ for Senders? i use a Red Sea ozonizer for 7 years before with no problems.
I think a 50 Mg of ozone is to small for a 180 gallon tank you will be at a ORP around 300-320mv if you have your tank well stuck.
I will go with the 100MG if i was you you can always turn it down.

Sanders is a better quality one. You can also perform normal maintenance on it unlike the Red Sea. I've heard from several people many brands of ozone flaking out after awhile. However, the sanders make has always been the best in quality. And imo, it wasn't alot more if I recall.

Has anyone set up an ozone reactor to pump the ozone into their tank instead of using a skimmer. When I injected ozone through the skimmer it caused erratic skimming. I have put the ozonizer on the shelf until I can find or make a decent ozone reactor. I know coralife makes one but I have heard it does not work to well. There is a company in North Jersey that makes one but it is pricey at $350. Other than those two I have not heard of another on the market. I have heard that some are improvising phosban reactors as ozone reactors (?) If so, how well do they work? I have a new luft pump, air dryer, and Red Sea 50mg ozonizer, just need to get a good reaction chamber. Any suggestions?
