Time for a new skimmer....

210gal Display Tank,,,, 120 gallon refugium.... 40 gallon sump.

Coral and fish..... light load at the moment but planning a heavily stocked tank.

I have a Reef Octopus INT-200. It's been great but it's under sized for my new system.... The pump is starting to struggle.... time for a new skimmer.

Thoughts???

Tagging along....I have the same skimmer but as the bioload on my 180 has increased I'm thinking I need something bigger as well.

Rather than the PM - id be keen to see your thoughts.

Skimmers are a minefield.

I currently run a 100g system but want a skimmer which will take on a 300g in readiness for an upgrade and happy to massively over skim before that stage.

Pref for me is a sump based skimmer. There's so many i literally have no idea which is best.

Considering a REGAL DC 170SSSS??? thoughts.

I just upgraded to Magus Curve DC A8 for my 210, the skimmer body is huge so make sure you have enough room for larger skimmers. My previous skimmer was the octopus 110 so it was small for the tank size but did a great job until the pump shorted.

You going to hear a lot of different opinions, but I have loved the quality, production, and cost of my Simplicity skimmer. Very quiet and built well.

I to am looking for a new skimmer my stuff is old. a euro reef and a asm g2 the g2 is on my 125. just trying to fins a good reliable skimmer for the 125. 300-400 max.

I am making a 40 ,long sump/refuigium right now.

It honestly seems like AquaC spray injection versus everyone else needle wheel,

If I had to choose right now, I think I'd go AquaC EV-1000.

I guess I would ask, whats your budget? How big is your footprint? Do you want DC or AC pump? Internal skimmer or external? Internal pump or external? Needle wheel, recirc, beckett, Downdraft, venturi...etc? There are alot of variables!

If going needlewheel, on a tank that size, i would be looking at a 10" body with at least 2000+ lph of air. I ignore arbitrary ratings when choosing a skimmer as size and air are a better comparison IMO.

Damn Carrol, you still around? I remember when we where heavy into mesh-mods and adding 2 to 3 pumps to a 12" body with extended necks. Fun times. Heck, I still have a couple of heavily mod skimmers in the shed.
