Time for another game of Goldflake or Flagfin

So one of my LFS has had this angel since last May when they got it in from Quality Marine about quarter size as a Goldflake. They want to get it out of their display tank and I am interested in purchasing it but want to determine what it is first. Sorry for the not great pic but best I can do with my phone, only thing to add to the pic is I can see a light black bar forming in the tail area but don't see any of the black in the dorsal fin and the fish is about 3.5 inches right now.
So what does everyone think?

tough pic but it does look a bit oddballish...still small...
the tail looks like it is getting black...
would love to see a better pic!

Yea I need to take my camera up with me, this one is driving me nuts especially since Goldflakes are one of the few obtainable large angels I haven't kept so I want one badly

I didn't think baby flagfins have that much black already on the anal fin while still having such a big defined dorsal spot. Also the white ring around the dorsal spot is pretty thick.... so I'm going to vote goldflake.

Still not a better pic but the black in the tail is starting to show more. Also I brought her home on Thursday

I definitely see the Goldflake blood in there. so either a hybrid or a a goldflake, do not think it is a flagfin.

and now a video from my tank nice and happy after over a year of Q

Nice Fish.

I have a little goldflake about the same size. The only difference I note is that mine is losing it's dot. Or the dot is now merging into the black on his dorsal fin. Which is starting to be outlined in blue.

Only other thing to note is that on mine the black on the head is continuous through the eyes. I also believe it is narrower if that makes sense. Your picture/video was driving me a little nuts as I was trying to figure this out, beside the black on the dorsal fin.

However I would agree that it is either a goldflake or a hybrid. Definitely has the goldflake in it's blood. Can see the coloring in the body. Not a flagfin, hopefully you got it as a decent price.

Good luck I love mine.

I also have a Goldflake about 2 1/2". Have him for about 3 months. Looks somewhat similar but the colors are starting to change to adult. Beautiful fish and eats like a pig"¦ pellet and everything else. Also quite the little bully.

I have done alot of research on this, and conversed with great heads in the field. The white like on the anal fin makes me think its a flagfin and not a hybrid... though there is still a chance its a hybrid.

I've never seen a juvenile or adult picture of a hybrid displaying that white band.

I just got mine today and was both happy and sad to see him in full adult color especially at his size. Mine is about 2.25 to 2.5 inches. I wanted to see him change but i am glad to know mine is 100% goldflake. Keep us updated and I think yours is goldflake all the way.

The only thing I am sure of Is his tail is getting blacker each week other than that your guess is as good as mine
