Time for another NSW run

I guess it's time to make another run out in the Gulf . I need to make some large water changes , this week . I think I have a PO4 problem from using old broken shells in my DIY rock . I have a lot of filamentous algae growing on my rock . I feel the best way to get the phosphate down is to do large water changes . Does anyone have a better way to lower the phosphorus level ?

BTW it is NOT from over feeding . Ted

Ted,

Seems like I always had some trace of phosphates even with large weekly NSW changes. I now run a bunch of GFO in mesh bags between the two socks in my sump and that seems to have taken care of it. I also run carbon there also. I change the carbon every two weeks and the GFO every month (for no reason other than a pure guess when they need to be replaced). Whether through low to no phosphates or pure dumb luck, I have had no algae issues in the main tank for awhile.

Thanks Jim , I am now thinking , the problem I'm having may be caused by what I used to make my rock . It may be more of a silicate problem rather than a p04 problem . Ted

adnup , Thanks for the help today . If gas keeps going higher , and higher , I may need to get a sail boat to go out for water . Ted

Gulf water at 38PPT. Due to lack of rain?

We went diving Sunday almost 30 miles offshore and while out I got about 50 gallons of NSW for water changes. With my piping and pump, the water is collected about 15' below the surface.

Needless to say will be diluting this with some RO/DI water.

Ted - what have you seen as far as salinity in the last water you collected?
