Time for that next build...

Its getting crowded under there!! haha. I would go with a really dark stain so that the black trim of the tank is complemented and doesn't stand out as much.

Kids are at the sitter and I have the day off... which means I'm getting stuff done ;)

Rock poly will be broken down tonight. Rock is moved, although it's probably not the final layout. I'm not a huge "shelf" guy, but I have an absolute ton of acan colonies that are difficult to put just about anywhere else. I also spent about 45 minutes picking 1-2mm snails out of the poly. With any luck they're black foot trochus, but they could be collonista as well.

These are my three aptasia ninjas, currently moved to the sump in the new system for cleanup.

I'll take better shots when the tank water clears. Still plenty of debris from shifting sand and cleaning rock.

Of course the inspector had plenty of work to do when she got home ;)

I decided I'm going to stick with my trusty ~4 year old LumenMax2. It's just hard to beat the minor spotlight and spread it has. The LumenMax Elite isn't bad, it just has too much of a focus for this tank.

I still have a TON of stuff to do. Under the tank is a mess. I have plumbing refining to do, the skimmer is already running and broken in again, electrical nightmare, media chambers and calcium reactor to move, topoff to figure out, etc...

That being said, I got a TON done today I didn't expect. I fired up the lights and the water was crystal clear and the skimmer was running with a head. I moved a couple of corals up and then though "hey I know where that one would look good", then another, then another, then the fish seemed lonely... And all the sudden most of my livestock is moved.

My black leopard is hiding in my sand containers in the temporary poly still, as well as my foxface. I think he's going to be too big to move in. Although I got all my favorites in, I have half a dozen colonies that just aren't going to make it as I'm just out of space. A few lord colonies, couple echinata, probably 50-75 heads of porkyspawn, 20-30 heads of green purple hammer, and all the frags I was going to bring to the swap are still downstairs. I knew I was going to cut it close on space, but I'm happy with the result. I also have tons of vertical space on the far back left and far back right side for plenty of zoa's which I think is what I'm going to start adding again. I haven't kept them in years. My clowns have decided the porkyspawn is close enough to an anemone it looks like. Let's see how bad they wail on it.

So enough of that, let me kill your broadband with some pictures...

So much for that old "SPS are the ones that really use alk/calc" myth ;) That's with me fingering them like crazy, dumping them into a new tank with different parameters, etc. 10 dKh to 7 dKh in less than 24 hours. Of course my corals could care less, and if it was SPS the entire tank would be RTN'ing right now

Calcium reactor is back online. I drilled a john geist small 1/4" ball valve into the return line. I like the location of the calcium reactor up high on my return chamber, and realize I have room actually for a bigger one. A 612 is way too tall, but I could do a stubby 608 or something. I'll see how my parameters do on the larger water volume, especially now that the corals have plenty of light. Nothing is struggling per say, but growth hasn't been the typical rapid pace since I was trying to cover the entire 4' poly with one 250mh. With any luck, I should see some pretty rapid development in the coming months.

Plenty of room for 2-3 media reactors. Definitely going to use the carbon (probably return pump feed) and a phosphate reactor (that mini model GEO built with a included pump). I'm debating running a mini biopellet reactor once they figure all that craziness out and aren't changing the products every 20 seconds.

Need to tackle topoff tomorrow and hopefully get some electrical started. The door panels are stained and sealed, so they should be able to go on tomorrow.

Panworld mod is doing well too ;)

The co2 tank finally ran out, so it's good that it will last me months at a time.

Just refilled the paintball canister again (free). Looks like about 5mo at 2-3 dKh a day usage :D Definitely a confirmed suitable replacement for a variety of sized systems (even up to medium and possibly heavy stocked).

What an awesome build man! I hope my cube turns out half as nice! I am going to be building my stand this weekend, just aquired a new lumenmax 2 and galaxy select a watt 250 that I will be using a radium in. Got the tank(45 marineland cube) and sump(20gal aga) yesterday and my old 28 nanocube broke down, cleaned and all livestock transferred to a tub so im ready.

I will lean on this thread quite a bit so thanks for posting it and hope to see it in person someday as i am local. Cute kids too!

Looks like your rock has been cooked and is pest free, am i right? I am looking for a few pieces that have been screened for any pests to kick off my rock that I bleached and rinsed due to being 10 years old and bubble algae ridden...grr. Any chance you have a few peices youd be willing to part with? I have some zoas and palys that I need to find a new home for as I am going strictly sps/lps in the new tank that I could trade you or cold hard cash...

Again, nice tank and build. Keep the updates coming!

Chris

Chris you are going to be disappointed. Erics tank was amazing, however I believe it has come down. Hopefully when it comes time for another new build he will also make sure we see the build thread for it.

However if you check the local board you will see that another member Mantis has some rock if you need it.

yes Eric's tank has been dismantle'd and sold. he is in process of moving out of state for work. pretty sure he will set somthing up in the new residence. just hoping he post's pic's of new setup when it happens.

also Mantis has some very nice rock for sale and should be able to take care of your needs.

All hope is not lost!!! Well, although it is true that it was torn down, it is back up and running... at my house. Some of the livestock is missing but all geo equip is there. I can post pics of the "now" if you would like :).

Yes, Andy has most of the equipment and some of the livestock, the corals are spread around numerous people that I trust and/or are saving some select things for me :D It's gone, but once we sell the house and move I'll likely set something else up.

What a shame! happens to the best of us though. I moved to colorado in 2000 having to take down a basement fish room only to not have a tank for 7 years til I got back to ohio again. That was torture. Im sure the tank will live on well with its new owner and your corals will be there when you need them. Nice to have good freinds!

When is the move? Just want to be sure I can have my tank ready to be able to get you the tunze in time.

Also, anyone know where I can get glass cut locally for my sump baffles? I guess I could use acrylic too but homey depots selection of either is too thin last time I checked...

also, yeah icu post your pictures, I am especially interested in the stand construction as it looks like it was built wider than the tank which is what I need to do to be able to accomodate my sump being 1" wider than the tank. I also just like the look and function of a lip around the the tank to set things on.

Do you guys trust the rock from mantis? afterall, his name doesnt give much confidence to his rock being pest free!
