time to "fallow" through with it

Thanks for the hand-holding that you guys have been doing for me as I've whined and fussed and carried on about ich that killed my powder brown.

To save his buddies, I'm fallowing my 180g DT and it will be a long process (more whining to come no doubt). I've got a 20g long as my treatment/hospital tank. I'm setting up a 55g for the happy fish camp out aquarium for the fallow. (Just what my very crowded living room needed to increase the cozy factor.) As I catch my fish a couple at a time, I'll treat them and then move them into the 55. Lather, rinse, repeat, until all of them are cycled into the 55g.

And then wait............10 weeks I guess.........but who will be counting?

Once my tang died, I thought maybe I would just start the process when I get back in town. Then I looked at my clown and realized she was not well. Tonight I caught her and plunked her into the hospital. It will be a little trickier for my house sitter but he'll get combat pay for dealing with it. I just couldn't risk her. We've had her 5-6 years.

Just an aside, the fish trap I borrowed from Fishy Biz worked like a charm. It has been in my tank for a few days just sitting there. Tonight I fed them right in from of it. A little while later, I squirted a little food into it. Now one of my gobies has been scooting in and out of it for days. This goby and my clown have a very odd relationship. Once the clown saw the goby getting food in there, she cautiously swam in. In a bit, I put a little more food in the trap and in she went. I cut the thread and trapped two fish at once.

I remember when I did a tank fallow for marine velvet... THAT sucked and ever since then I don't add anything to my DT's without a 3 week quarantine period in my 29 gallon. You won't regret fallowing your system :)

to blue coyote - the trap I borrowed looks like a "homemade" one that someone fabricated out of plexiglass but if you go to the fish disease forum, there are links to some that you can buy. They essentially are clear with a sliding trap door attached to fishing line. I will probably try to buy one since this process will be strung out over a while and I don't just want to hog the one the LFS lends out. Anyway, I think there is a sticky about the "uncatchable" fish. Check it out.

I've got my little clown in treatment right now and she showed such great signs of recovery overnight that I feel very positive. I ramped up the dosage a quarter dose at a time and she seems to be handling it - good appetite. I'm hoping to move her into my fish-less nano before I leave town and she may just spend the rest of the fallow in there - her own little quarantine. Then when I gt back I start fishing the others out a couple at a time and send them to the hospital. They aren't showing any signs of ich right now.

As a side note and a lesson I learned the hard way, do you have a ground probe in your display system? I had some symptoms of ich in my fish so I QT'd them, and did 10 weeks fallow... Everyone seemed great in QT. After the 10 weeks when I reintroduced them into to DT the symptoms came back :( Turned out I had some stray voltage in the tank that was stressing the fish out and lowering their immune systems. But wasn't enough for me to feel with my arm in the tank. I put a ground probe in and boom all was well. Worried with it for almost 3months for a $9 2 second fix.

How's the fallow going? I had a jumper a few days ago from my FOWLR and I thought the trigger was dead when I got home but I just added water and BAM it came back to life! Lol Anyways I put him back in the display tank and now (as of 5 am today) everyone has the white dots. Im gonna use the Kordon and see how it goes. I should have followed my own advise and put him into my QT tank first

Geez. Why do we do this? LOL I've been out of town for the last couple of weeks. I treated my clowns and segregated them before I left. All my other fish in the DT look fine but I know the evil that lurks there. As soon as I get my feet back on the ground after being gone, I'll start catching fish.

Yeah, I am currently keeping two quarantine tanks to house all the fish... The wife is kinda upset about that one but its an emergency!

On a separate note- I retract my previous statement about coppersafe being readily available because i guess its no longer being made... I went with copper power instead

yeah - and to think that one was voluntary!

Actually, the sillygoose comes from my business, Silly Goose Glassworks. I do science by day and art by night. I had just set up my business site when I joined RC so it seemed natural. But now I realize that sillygoose out of context is, well, kinda silly

So I have a real question that I probably already know the answer to...do I gotta do it? All of the fish left in my DT look perfectly healthy. No white spots anywhere. Can ich parasites survive if all of the fish present are not infected?

Yes, still do it. Ich can take even longer than 8 weeks to go though its entire cycle, so it is very much still present in your aquarium.

On a side note- what type of glasswork is it? Ive seen some awesome hermit crab shells made from blown glass and would really want one

Wow - that sounds cool. I'd love to see one.

I do fused glass - bowls, plates, hanging things, and some jewelry. My website is sillygooseglassworks.com.
