Time to shut it down for now - First round FS

SLim Jim
Hello CMAS,

Well I must admit that it really kinda sucks that I am going to be one more of those "taking down the tank" threads. There have been way too many in the forums recently. But, I will be taking a break from the hobby for a little while so that I can focus on some larger issues in life. I am about to purchase a house and I would like to get my graves disease under control before getting back in. I might keep my 20 gallon setup running without any fish but honestly im not sure yet.

I am ONLY selling livestock (fish, corals, inverts). I will NOT be selling any of my main system equipment or essentials as I plan to seriously get back into the hobby within the near future (year or two). I might try to get rid of my extra equipment and misc. parts but I have to see what I have.

All of the items are on a first come first serve basis. I will only take Pm's with regards to these sales and I would prefer to drive to you and drop them off (with the exception of #8). Copy and paste the example list below into a PM to me and fill out the info. It will make it easier on me. I live near 31st and halsted and my name is Jim @ (773) 851-5505

Item number: 4, 6, 7
Quantity: 1, 2, 2
Date: 6/23
Time: 6pm - 10pm
Location: Space ball 1
Contact Info

Anyways, here goes.

Up for sale I have the piece de resistance of my tank. My Queen Angelfish. I am Darn proud of my fish and she takes the cake. If anyone is familiar with my saltwater practices they will know I am a MASSIVE advocate of quarantine. You couldnt pay me to put anything into my tank and as such, this fish is as clean as a whistle. Treated for everything that I currently know of. She has been through a full successful round of copper and treated for flukes, worms, etc.. She is fat and healthy and Ive had her since she was a juvi. Before she was introduced into the main display, it ran fallow for 4 months and not a single coral, invert, rock, sand, water, or hand from another persons tank has touched my system water since then. (yes that means I do have colonies to sell below). I would like her to go in a tank that has a footprint of at least 6' by 2'. She eats from your fingertips and follows me every time im in sight. No joke.

Priced at $100 for the healthiest angel around.

Next up I have a haitian reef anemone. This anemone has not been fully quarantined and has not been in a tank that meets the 3 month mark of my stringent fallow procedures. She is alive and pretty healthy. About the size of a baseball when fully open and attached to a 16 pound rock (would like to keep the rock hopefully). I honestly dont know the going rate for anemones so ill try $30 for this guy (rock included) $20 if we can get her off it? Currently she is under T5's.

NOTE:

EVERYTHING below this point is from my main display and has been treated for all bugs and is just as clean as my angel. I chose my corals VERY carefully before putting them in my system and most of them are extremely prized color combos from reputable venders/locals. They look like poo now (I changed the lights and blasted them) but you will NOT be disappointed! Ive always said that Ive gotten fish down pat, but those corals are tricky.

First on the list is some green poci. I have two large colonies. One colony is the size of your two fists balled up and placed in tandem. The other colony is the size of the top third of a beach volleyball. I can break these guys apart for about 20 $10 frags or sell the colonies for $60 and $40 respectively. I put a quarter next to them to give a reference for size.

Bucket o pulsing Zenia, Brown monti, kenya tree, green monti, other misc small frags - $5 for a lot of any one coral.

Thanks!

Jim, I will take the Queen Angel. I have a 300G system. From what you mentioned, I hope he will not nip on my SPS/clam.

Tangstank- I have a clam in my tank and she only has nipped it 3-4 times. Keep the clams up high and they should be fine. She has only nipped at corals occasionally. Shes not a voracious monster and has never killed any clam or coral that ive owned. Only a nip here and there once or twice a week from what ive seen.

Update:
Queen angelfish - Pending Sale
both #3 colonies - Pending Sale
Lots of frags still available.

New Additions:

I was able to un-attach two smaller colonies of the #3 coral. I was not expecting them to just lift right out. One is fist sized and the other is tangerine sized. $20 for the larger and then $15 for the smaller.

Im actually curing my graves disease with diet. Its going rather well so far.

Im not sure I follow. graves disease is a condition of hyperthyroidism that occurs when your body's amuse system attacks thyroid. Your body counters by over producing thyroxine causing primarily loss of weight and countless other issues such as body temp swings emotional issues but also things like irreversible pop eye where your eyes protruded from your head due to swelling. Dieting would cause you loose even more weight.... I was 180 before I was diagnosed and eating twice my daily calorie intake i still lost 50 pounds. sorry to divert the thread maybe pm me to explain.

Working to reduce symptoms of a disease with a change of diet is not the same as "dieting". It is likely that he is reducing his dietary intake of iodine in an effort to limit the availability of iodine in the formation of T4. Higher amounts of fat in the diet will slow digestion and allow you to get more out of what you are eating. Fiber should serve this same purpose as well. It is quite amazing how we are seeing more and more ties between poor choice of foods and an increase in autoimmune diseases. Unfortunately, the majority of the research is being done in the area of pharmaceuticals and not the effects of diet on our health. So progress in this area is rather slow.

I was extremely critical when I found out about it 7 months ago. You and I are on the same page. I did find a way to cure it though. I'm off the pills and very consistent levels confirmed through regular blood tests. My doc is going mental over it. Remember the doctor is not a nutritionist. I'll send a pm later explaining my findings.

Back on topic.

Lots of frags are still available. Most colonies are gone. I will be making drop offs tonight and will contact those of whom I am seeing.

Yes I can see that working in simple hypo/hyper thyroid conditions but if in treated graves has some pretty serious yet non life threatening conditions. So your saying a high fiber high fat diet will reduce iodine intake or am I misunderstanding yet again.

3seconds2live - sending a PM so that I don't derail the thread.
