Time Warner "on demand" help

We dropped satellite TV a few years ago. Between netflix, amazon prime, and the free stuff on hulu we have access to all the shows and movies we'd ever want. The only real disadvantage is there's no good way to watch live stuff that's not available via the internet, which pretty much boils down to sports. For the two or three sporting events I actually want to watch each year I just go to a friend's house.

I have actually talked the family into this. We're using Netflix, Hulu Plus through my Blu-ray player upstairs and Wii downstairs, and I just signed up for Amazon prime. Roku and a new antenna are coming in the mail.

I can't wait to cut the cord!

Do you use an antenna for local channels? How effective is Hulu for current tv programs? Are major network programs available soon after they air?

I have an antenna but rarely use it. Hulu has most of the shows I watch the day after they air but the list is really short - you can go on there and search if you are curious.

help needed!

this is an old thread but I'm bumping it up because I'm not too proud to ask for help :)
*As others might already be aware, I've not been entirely pleased with TWC*

I called TWC yesterday about my 3 play "all in one" package (I wanted to cut my land line and reduce my monthly bill), HOWEVER... the TWC CSR on the phone told me that my monthly service charge would actually increase by cancelling the land line. (What the ?)

Long story short I need to reduce my cable bill because I'm not going to sit and watch TV simply because I'm PAYING for it!

So I cancelled the land line and requested basic cable and internet after considering dropping TWC altogether.

I really need some help over here. I need to get the TWC DVR disconnected and see if the kids Xbox can supply me with Netflix as well as well as make some system recommendations.

I want to enjoy MORE BETTER for less!

TW screws you with the bundles. If you leave a bundle it becomes a la carte and more expensive. I am still trying to find a way to shut off tw for 6 months and then when you return you get a better deal for a year. But then I would lose Hbo Go.

Google Fiber would be the only reason that TW would change things. If Google Fiber picks up enough steam and starts getting cities to drop the monopolies, TW would have to improve the options and pricing. But that is years away.

I insinuated that I was about to cancel cable and they transferred me to the "Retention Dept." Those folks knocked $30.00 a month off our bill for one year. Meanwhile, we've subscribed to Netflix and there is so much great content that we couldn't watch everything we'd like before we croak. For instance, I just watched five seasons of "Mad Men" and this season is on TWC on demand (Channel 733). I browsed Hulu Plus and didn't find much we like so we won't be paying them a monthly stipend. Since you already have the Xbox, Gary, give Netflix a try. The first month is free, there's no contract and you can cancel anytime.

We also just switched to Direct TV and so far its a better deal. Have only had a few very brief channel outages during storms but we had that all the time with TWC anyways. If the few channels we watched were on hulu it'd be so easy to drop TV altogether, but alas I like the discovery channel and the misses can't live without Bravo haha
