Tim's 135g Tank Build

O.K. here we go. This will be a long thread with many twists and turns along the way but hopefully in the end I will have a nice 135g reef in my living room with lots of great fish and corals.

I bought this tank/stand/canopy/pump off Craig's list from a guy in Phoenix. he originally had it listed for $550.00 which I though was a descent price but he quickly dropped the price to $450 and I couldn't resist. It does have a 48" Power compact light set in the canopy but I'm not sure I'll be using that(not sure yet if it works).

Here are some pics of what I'' be starting with...The Tank from back to front:

That's what I'm starting with. the guy who had it had it set up as a freshwater tank. Holes drilled in the base were being used for a canister filter. He used it as two as drains to the filter and then returned through the other two. I have a feeling the owner before him was using this as a closed loop system but at any rate that's what I plan tn do,

I will need to drill more holes for overflows(help), get a sump, plumbing, finish sanding the doors on the stand, apply stain etc, etc, etc. This will take some time as I also need to put new tile in the living room before this goes in so we are looking 6 to 12 months down the road before this is actually sitting in the living room. Lots of fun huh?

This looks like its going to be an awesome tank I really like the canopy. What kind of stocking plans do you have both coral and fish wise?

Awesome Tim!! Looks like you got a great system and a great deal!! If you need some help let me know. Glad to see another build thread for sure. Good luck!

Tim,
What a great deal for the tank! Another build to see started in it's infancy. Looking forward to see this one finished. Thanks!

Well it's time to break out the sandpaper and finish the sanding on the cabinet doors this weekend, Then it's onto Lowes to pick a stain color and start painting. Fun huh...? Like I said. This will be a long tank build thread.

just like painting, make sure you work your way through the grits. you don't want swirlys showing up in your finish. prep prep prep. staining is the easy part.

Well things should go a little faster on the sanding now cause Ryan lent me his power hand sander at the meeting this past Sunday! See, there are lots of good reasons for attending STARS meeting.:lolspin:

Gotta some repairs to do on the base of the stand also as I found some water damage there that I hadn't seen before(imagine that). That's out of my skills area so I got my handyman working on that.:spin3:

No, The 135 is still in the garage dry as a bone. still waiting to get the living room floor tile done first. Can't get real serious about it until that happens. Thanks for asking though.
