Just some advice here,

I noticed my Tunze mag cleaner picked up a magnetic particle from my aragonite coral sand bed. On inspection I saw this small piece of iron oxide material. I then thoroughly ran my magnet through the 1" sand bed for a good 20 mins, In that time i managed to pick up about half a teaspoon of similar material. In the end I must have got almost all of it.

Would you remove the sandbed,
Partially remove the sandbed,
leave it and run a magnet over it for the next few weeks?

The sand was thoroughly washed in Ro for 3 weeks prior to placement in the tank but I forgot to run a magnet over it.

Thanks

Is it black sand? If so, this can be quite real. I had a disastrous experience with black sand that was all kinds of magnetic.

It's not the mag cleaner picking up the magnetic particles, It's the mag cleaner loosing it...

It is definitely not the mag cleaner, it is fully sealed still.

The sand is not black, just aragonite 1-3mm, like I said there was only a small amount and it appears to be mostly gone now.

I too have noticed the exact thing - magnet when cleaning the glass was picking up metals from the sandbed. I removed the sand and the corals improved.
I then got a different brand of sand and saw the same thing but far fewer and much smaller particles.

I did remove about a 3rd of the bed and magged it again, I will see what happens over the next few weeks.
Most of my frags look ok.

Thanks

Do you folks know what brand of black sand was magnetic??

Yes, the black sand is DEFINITELY magnetic. I have it in my system...and the scratches to prove it. Not to mention the fact that any time the mag cleaner (2 lil fishies nano) gets anywhere near the sand, it jumps onto the magnet. 100% confirmed
