Tiny Haddoni question.

I recently got a tiny Haddoni carpet anemone that is about 1.5 inches across. It is doing great. My question is, how big should it be until I add my pair of Clarki clownfish pair so that they don't hurt it?

If you feed them on a regular basis, they will grow...and quickly. The one I got about 1 month ago, came in at about 6-8". It is now easily 10-12". I feed it 1 silverside (cut up) or krill at least 2-3 times a week. It lives under my Mazarra P series LED, though it prefers the shaded/indirect light.

We rarely see Haddoni that small. I know that they got to start small before they get big. Are you sure you got a Haddoni?

I agree with Twistofer. Anemone grow very fast with feeding. My gigantea grow from 6 inches to 22 in 12 months with a lot of feeding. The think is that I could have fed him more and he would grow even faster.

+1. I mean no disrespect, but a small haddoni as you describe is truly a rare gem. I've only seen one in 20 years or so. If it is a haddoni, I would personally keep in in a tank with small, peaceful tankmates for a long time, until it grows large enough not to be "overloved" by the clowns.

If I were to guess what you have, assuming it isn't a haddoni, could it be something like this?

Looks like the photo of the baby haddoni is gone. I'll see if I can dig it up.

I received two 5inches haddonis. One was red and one was red and green

Def not a regular thing either.

I agree. I had a red one that was 4 inches. However, once you get to the 1.5"-2" range, one starts to think that it's a S. tapetum (or similar species) since a lot of places were trying to pass them off as baby haddoni.

Good point about what sellers say and what actually comes. Fresh Marine tried to pass off a Pizza Anemone as a Haddon's Carpet. However, you couldn't miss the beautiful bright brick orange tube with papillae. Haddon's ... Not.

Great Pix...it looks like my new Haddon's, which, however, is flourescent lime green with a pink mouth. The tube is white and smooth.

Small Haddoni stay on the rock, they go to the sand when they get larger. The picture you posted is that of a large Haddoni, not small. The colorations can be/typical of that of a S. tapetum.
If you can take a picture of the anemone, we/I can easily tell a Tapetum from a Haddoni from the top. Most of the time I don't need the column to tell.

Regardless of which species, it look like you need to hold off on putting your Clarkii into the tank. Even if it is a Tapetum, Clarkii will often accept any anemone as host, even S. tapetum

It is a tiny Haddoni. It is going to be green stripe

Thanks for the confirmation. I was starting to get worried when people were saying it was probably a tapetum due to size. It is so cute when you think how big it is going to get.

The pictures aren't the greatest as my blue line of my DIY LED's crapped out. The green really popped when they were on. My Radion should be coming early next week, so it will look a lot better again.

Very cool, definitely a haddoni. Nice pick up. Sorry about doubting you -- the statistics were definitely stacked against you. I'm glad you were able to provide photos. To answer your original question, I definitely wouldn't add any clowns for a long time. I would guess that it should be at least 6" before you add an average size clown. However, if you could find some juvenile clowns (very small ones) that would make for a really cool and unique display.

I do have 2 other maxi-mini's in the system, so the aggression might be spread around. I think I'll wait for a while still though.
