i have got these all over my class too i did not know what the were. it does look like a super tiny jelli though. i guess thats what it is. i have yet to see one swim though my current is to stong for them i would think

Doh, today is irukandji day... freaky. Two threads on killers...

I am going to check my tank for sea snakes and blue ringed octopus tonight just to be sure!

well i have touched them and felt nothing all jellies sting at different potencys. it depends on the pray. jellies that eat fish will have a more potent sting than those that filter feed. they sting with cells called nematocysts. the nematocysts on these jellies are likely too small to puncture human skin. but on the other hand the ones that box jellies have are microscopic and You have virtually no chance of surviving the venomous sting, unless treated immediately. The pain is so excruciating and overwhelming that you would most likely go into shock and die befor your able to get help
i might be wrong and im no biologest so feel free to correct me.

sounds right but the irukandji is same size and could take down a horse. only reason why i am freaked out is becuase i had a anemone attach me one time like a octopus. and the pain went through my bone from my hand to my chest when i started having trouble breathing. it was a curly cue anemone. and i handle anemones all the time.
