Tiny Might skimmer rockin'

Yep, just did it with a dremel. Someone else in another forum did it with a hand file. Just make sure they are even to put equal pressure on the oring and your good to go. You don't have to ramp it really extreme to make it work.

Yeah, but I don't have one of those unfortunately. I can do just about anything I need to with a table router and a dremel. Maybe not as fast but just as fun!

How about this 6-axis CNC router, think it could make one of these?

Nah, that thing probably couldn't cut a good circle!

well the skimmate production is really crappy! literally! ha ha ha ha ha you might want to stick your nose in there and take a big sniff of success! ha ha ha ha ha

that's awesome! but now remember when this bad boy strips your system of all its nutrients the skimmate production will decrease. I have seen it a bunch of times. a lot of people think there skimmer is not performing like it use to. so they mess with it and screw things up. as long as your not scraping the glass every two weeks its working pretty darn good.

as far as drilling all those holes...... have fun and good luck!

ya I know I'm an a$$. my bad. I recommend drilling the outer 3 rings of holes and see how that works. then do more if needed. there is only about 700 holes in that plate. come on it wont be that bad.

LoL:
Man I just looked back at some emails on the diffuser and it has 1500 3/32" holes. I may just make another plate. I would have to have the skimmer off for 2 days to drill that many holes!

hey you just take 3-4 beers and a stool and sit at the drill press for an hour. thats not too hard to do. its just reaming them out a little. it would be a good project for a sunday afternoon while listening to the baseball game in the radio.

Want to know the only thing worse than sitting in a steaming hot garage drilling 1500 or so holes in a diffuser plate? The drill bit you usaed is not big enough to do the frickin' trick...Aaaaah! I guess the good news is that the next size up will do it!
Just to keep you guys updated the skimmer is still chugging along. This is the cup tonight, Monday. This is from Saturday morning to today. And the next pic is a shameless photo posting op of my tank!

Yeah I know! I lost all the really nice corals in a chiller failure for hurricane Katrina last year. I lost 12 or so large colonies and a whole lot of frag and aquacultured stuff. This is whats left. Still don't have the colors back. That is what 92 degree tank water will do for you. The joys of reef keeping!

Man that is some impressive skimmate production! Remind me what was skimming your tank before the Tiny Might.

I was skimming with this six foot beast air stone skimmer. 11" diameter chamber 6 three inch air stones with Alita 60. I was at a point of not getting a fourth of the collection cup per week. I was having to empty it every 4 days the first few months. That is why I thought the water was stripped of nutrients. But the skimmate is back chugging along again!

I am only looking at pushing 20 SCFH .... so the 50 will be fine for me. I just can't see needing any more than that at this point (the OR3700 will not handle any more anyway) I surely don't want to get a larger recirc or air pump.
