Tiny Might skimmer rockin'

That is EXACTLY what I was looking for AND/OR trying to have made!

I usually am pretty damn good about finding stuff on the internet... I tried the oil filter cooler... but only spent about 5 minutes on it and likely got sidetracked with other keywords and ideas (I thin it was the heatsinks for the RC motors that side tracked me).

Great find... now lets give them a try!

that is the exact thing i was asking the engineer if he could make! thats awesome! i plan to order one for my tiny might just as soon as i can. i might order 2 just to see if my iswaki will run cooler with it on there.

Yep, I think i will order one this weekend too! By the way the skimmer just keeps pumping stuff out! I can go from dry skimmate to semi-wet with ease. I could not be happier with the performance! And one of the best parts is the low power consumption! I can't believe I am getting this performance for 94 watts total! I will try to get the numbers redone this weekend
with the intake and return closed off.

Spazz even though we "like" the design and it is what I want (for ease of use). He will likely nix it. This is the basic design I was going to have made by my metal guy. The only difference was I wanted the fins to be big and fat at the bottom and taper to a point. I also wanted the actual base ring to be about twice as thick to add more mass to the design. My intentions were to NOT have to use a fan on this thing. The mass and fat fins would help move the heat away from the pump body (and therefore the windings and the water).

It pretty much sucks (the design we all seem to love) for convection cooling but may work OK in a radiant manner due to the round pump body and the fact that the fins (at least the top 1/3) will vent themsevles fairly well.

He may tell us that it will be good nuf for our purpose, so we will have to wait and see.

Well the website shows testing on cars and motorcycles and it dropped temps from 12% to 20%. With no air flow on the car it was 12 and on a bike it was 20% I would have no problem putting a small 3 watt computer fan to get 20% less heat!

bean think this will be plenty for what we need it for. the tiny might is not running that hot. my iswaki's are running 20-30 deg hotter than the tiny might is. the tiny might is running about 110-115 deg no more. but this will bring that number down to around 100 or so. in my mind that is perfect for what we need. that way your skimmer wont be a source of heat to your system. you can change the feed pumps on a systme to a different brand with out much trouble at all. but to try and find a skimmer pump to match anything out there is almost imposable. so making this one effecient and running cool is a good goal to have. then no one can say they needed to add a chiller due to there skimmer. it would defeat the point of making the tiny might needle wheel. but i do agree with you bean. the taller wider fins would give alot more square inches to transfer heat from with out using a fan. but this design is so perfect because its already in production and does not need to be changed one bit. im hopingto have one in about a week and a half. then i will see how it does on my tiny might. i will run it for an hour and then add the cooler to it. then run it for another hour. and see the difference in heat.

so now the only thing we need to figure out is the cfh being injected into the tiny might. ok mike its timeto break down and buy an air meter from dwyers. there only $17 ea so you cant say there too expensive. ha ha ha ha

Spend the extra $20 and go for the 4" scale meters from Dywer. The instrumental error will be much lower so you can get a more accurate number. I saw elsewhere on their site some 10" scale air meters; that would be even better.

Wow you guys already know I'm a bit tight! Boy I don't know I just bit the bullet and ordered the cool collar. It was 39.95 with shippping. My budget for the week is blown! Ha! Ha! Well maybe I can sneak another 17.00. SHHH!

Here we go, how about the RMC-102 or RMC-103? 10" scale 20-200scfm, should be able to get a nice accurate reading with such a long scale.

How about this for $67.50?

Maybe thats the one I looked at and got greedy and wanted the NEXT better unit :)

And I thought I was the only one who spent an hour looking through that site. The 5-50 model would be good.

Nah, I think we're all that anal. The 5-50 would work for your OR3700 but smjtkj needs the 20-200 since that Hailea V-60 should be putting out around 127 scfm. I'd love to know how much air is going through that Tiny Might.

Sorry fellas, I just ordered the 2 inch model for 23.00. It is the
15-150 model. The better half will have a fit if I spend another 67.00 on a air flow meter! I like peace and quiet, and when mama is happy everybody else is happy! Ha! Ha!

Well dang! Well, if I wind up getting the big boy I'll send it your way so you can take more accurate readings.
