Tiny refugium- Should I bother?

I agree. unless you are up for additional maintenance work for little return, I don't think it is feasible cost benefit wise. But if you are looking for something to do to keep you busy, sure why not. more often than not, it will be neglected, and will just be a trap for detritus. I once got a free ball of chaeto, and I think there was just as much crap in there as there are chaeto. most fuge I see has (unwanted) algae growing in the sump. just weigh the pros and cons, its not all pros.

the LAST thing I'm looking for is something else to keep me busy;)

You're right, it's not all pros. This is my concern, is it worth it? I'm at this point just leaning toward no. I have a skimmer, carbon, and a canister filter I can run intermittently. Maybe this is enough. A small section would be a nice place to store rock rubble, though- I use it now and again to mount frags, etc. Perhaps if I keep the rock off the bottom with some sort of a floating eggcrate bin then I could more easily keep it clean. Thing is, detritus will collect on the bottom of the sump and I don't have a wetvac:/ So, I'm still not sure. ... Ugh, I really want this tank to go well!

That is why^^. IMO we all need to take a step back- this isn't a run to answer questions even when you have no experience with a subject. If he had more info in his profile about his system, or if he even mentioned that he had a refugium, then I might not have mentioned it. Let's not turn this into a bigger deal than it is.

And do you have any idea when he wrote that? Very likely it was almost 2 years ago when he joined the site. I know I haven't updated mine maybe ever. This is a public DISCUSSION forum and it's ridiculous when people try to control who or what people post because they don't think it meets their personal criteria.

ha ha check out my tank info. I do have 9 in years in saltwater 0 years in freshwater. When I first discovered RC I learned so much so fast. You can learn a lot from reading on here, and I don't doubt that time in the hobby is as important as how absorbed one is. He may have had a tank that he researched for a year before getting started. On the other hand he could just be trying to get enough posts for the for sale thread. It's silly to go out of your way to say you don't want his opinion. If you dont want it dont take it.

I must say that at almost 4000 posts and a join date of 2001, according to your criteria, most of us will not be able to please you with our answers.
