Tips for a newbie at raising fry and rot

Well I think I'm going to give this a try. I have a list of supplies i plan on getting and plans on how to tackle this. Any input would be appreciated.

Rotifer 1 million from reeds
Rgcomplete 32 oz
Oto b1 3oz
Baby brine hatchery
5 gallon bucket
53 um sieve

Would one culture of rots in a five gallon bucket be enough? I plan on using a 5 gallon bucket and storing 2 litter of rots in vacation mode in the fridge for 1 week and replacing with harvest rots every week and restarting if needed.

How long should one 32oz rg complete last? Found the answer. At one culture 11ml per day will last 86 days.

Plan of keeping Rotifer

One 5 gallon bucket filled with reeds rots. Let culture get dense after 3 days. Then harvest 2 gallon every day though sieve. Keep the water green. Low aerated and temp around 77-80.

Fry day 2-7 Rotifers only
Fry day 7-14 rots and bbs
Day 14-21 rots, bbs, oto b1

That's all the research I done so far.

What to feed after b1? How often to change water in rot culture? How much water to change? What salinity would work best? I'm at 30ppt for all my tanks.

Thanks

PM sent. Easier if you just swing by and I can try to answer your questions. In short, you're on the right track, just need to fine tune your plan a bit.

Thanks I wish I could. I haven't updated my location. I no longer live in the bay. But thanks.

My notes mixed in...

Rotifer 1 million from reeds
Rgcomplete 32 oz
Oto b1 3oz (You want TDO with Chroma Boost to get the best color. I would just buy the breeder pack that includes all sizes from A to C1)
Baby brine hatchery
5 gallon bucket
53 um sieve

(I have two cultures going at once. I've crashed cultures before, it's actually pretty easy to crash a culture. I use one of these in one bucket: http://apbreed.com/product_compact_culture_system.php and plan to get another for my second bucket. I noticed that it actually kept the bucket cleaner.)

How long should one 32oz rg complete last? Found the answer. At one culture 11ml per day will last 86 days. (I found that feeding less more often works better than one larger feeding. I used to feed a lot in the morning, then left it alone all day, but I noticed more waste in the buckets.)

Plan of keeping Rotifer

One 5 gallon bucket filled with reeds rots. Let culture get dense after 3 days. Then harvest 2 gallon every day though sieve. Keep the water green. Low aerated and temp around 77-80. (Keep in mind that cultures tend to be more stable -- less prone to crashing -- at lower temps, but they multiply slower. I don't have heaters in my cultures. I used to use heaters and I crashed both 5 gallon buckets.)

Fry day 2-7 Rotifers only
Fry day 7-14 rots and bbs (Some people skip bbs altogether and go right to A, but many believe it's just to get the fish used to eating dry food. They're not actually eating A, just smelling it, and learning that it is something to eat. By the time you add B1, they'll eat it.)
Day 14-21 rots, bbs, oto b1

That's all the research I done so far.

What to feed after b1?
(You feed B2, then C1... but at this point you can switch to other foods if you like)

How often to change water in rot culture? How much water to change?
(I harvest about 2 gallons as you mentioned, then replace it with water from my DT that I filtered through a coffee filter.)

What salinity would work best? I'm at 30ppt for all my tanks.
(I gradually brought my cultures up to .026 or 35ppt, but just bring it up to your tanks so that the rots don't go into shock when you add them to your tanks.)

Thanks

That's too bad... I am just a tunnel or bridge away from Oakland.

Thanks for the tips. I will be getting the breeders pack and skip bbs. Will gunk from the culture be ok without cleaning everyday and just doing weekly water changes on the culture. I'm thinking about 50% wc every week.
