Hi everyone I just wanted to create a place where people can tell about their past experiences and talk about what has and has not worked for them before so others can learn from their experiences and not make the same mistakes and take something helpful by reading this. Thanks and hope this may become helpful.

Welcome... Keep reading the post and you'll find alot of mistakes we make and how to correct them.

JGHA, this entire site is about what he have learned and the mistakes we have made. Like tangweed said, read through every thread on this site and you will find something someone did wrong and the solution they had for it! :D

Welcome JGHA...there is no way one thread could hold all of that information because as atwinparadox2 pointed out, the entire site is devoted to that basically :) I think the one most important thing I learned a long time ago with regards to this hobby was the need for patience...and research...there is A LOT to research on this site from a lot of experienced hobbyists.

LOTS of patience and LOTS of research first. THEN try something and make a mistake and learn something.

The only information that you won't find on this site is information that you don't search or ask for.

Seriously - ask about any aspect of this hobby and it's been covered in multiple threads.

Patience, perseverance and research are the key to this hobby. You will find many good folks willing to help here on RC. Good luck!

Nothing good happens quickly in this hobby. Most of what we learn is by screwing up. Many screw ups can be avoided by reading this site. There is a HUGE amount of information available.

Do not believe in comments like... a friend of a cousing saw in a place and it was....

Always try to learn with experienced people that talk about what they have faced and solved....

+1 about the research and patience.

And buy the proper equipment the first time, and don't be cheap. Being cheap its just gonna cause you headache in the long run.

come and join us in the new to the hobby forum, theres thousands of posts about failures and were still making mistakes now as well

A few I've learned, tried and proven:

1. Baking soda can be used to raise alkalinity
2. Fluke tabs can wipe out softies
3. Aquamend and Super glue gel works best for mounting frags
4. Want instant water clarity? Briefly let your pump regurgitate air in the display.
5. Lugols dip kills zoanthid eating nudibranchs
6. Maracyn eliminates cyanobacteria
7. Selcon/Zoecon kills your skimmate temporarily
8. After the lights go out, use a flashlight to light up an anemone so your clown would "see" and use it as a host.
9. Vinegar cleans calcium buildup on pumps
10. High doses of Mg can kill bryopsis.

I can keep going with this until I reach thousands.. but there are just so much field in this hobby that the answers are endless.
