tips on adding a second maroon clown

Anyone have any suggestions on how best to add a second maroon clown to my tank?

I'm nearing the point where I'm going to be draining my old tank and filling the new one. I'd like to try to add a second maroon clown, but I know they are aggressive and territorial.

I do not see this ending well...These clowns have a bad attitude and a short fuse..But it may work out with both starting in a neutral position..hard to say..

let us know how it works out..

Yeah, i know they dont generally get along, and i certainly dont want to sentence a fish to death... but if there are things i can do to increase my chances...

i had two maroons that got along fine alittle nudging and nipping at first but it wasn't anything too bad. My big clown was about the size of yours and I got the smallest one I could to add.Maroons get more aggresive as they get bigger your's is still pretty small in terms of a maroon so she might not be too bad yet. And I would add them to the new tank at the same time or atleast reposition you LR so the first one doesn't have territory.

So the general consensus is to add them at the same time to the new tank with the new clown being smaller than my current clown?

Yea, I think that would work. But keep us updated, I'm debating doing the same thing when I get to set up my new tank and would like to know your experience.

I would add a small one and hope the larger one which will be the female in the pair likes him. Two females will definately fight. Adding 2 small juveniles at the same time works too: even better if one is a bit larger than the other.

Funy story, I took a gamble and got my GSMs from two separate tanks at a local lfs. one was slightly larger than the other... As soon and I mean as soon as they hit the DT water, the larger of the two clamped down on the smaller ones right fin and took him for a death roll 24" to the bottom of the tank. As soon as the larger one let go, they've been a happy couple ever since.. LOL.. These creatures are hilarious. Definitely one of my reefs memorable moments.

Considering I have a 2.5" maroon that has been the only clown in they system since I got it about 2 years ago, would you suggest I go with a second clown that is slightly smaller, noticably smaller, as small as I can find... ???

I would get the absolute smallest maroon you can find, and it still may not work out.

Any maroon added that's close in size will be seen as more of a threat. If possible, put in some pieces of narrow pipe (or other shelter) that the smaller clown can fit in and escape from the larger if she gets too rough.

Good luck.

put a small clown in about 1 inch or so if not get one about the same size they will fight for a little but one will become the dominant then they will get along fine took me a couple days just watch so the less aggressive doesnt get too stressed
