to any one thats had Pinched Mantle

i have been battling some PM on y 4" crocea since i got it. i FWD and it comes back within two weeks. where can i get this prazipro and can i treat my reef tank or should i QT and treat the clam? is the protozoan in the tank and the clam, or just the clam? i am worried about treating the whole tank.

i would put the clam into QT for the treatment.if you could hold the clam off with FWD's for now there are some other treatments that are being worked on that should work better then Metro or Prazi but it might be a few more weeks befor any thing is known.

nice. i will stay subscribed and wait it out for a while.

another question: did lighting have anything to do with the PM at all? i ask because i have a really crappy coralife 20k 150w bulb on the tank (20L) and i am concerned that i havent gotten the growth or sustainability that i should. i have since ordered a hamilton 10k 150w bulb for the tank and hopefully things will start to grow. bulb should be on my doorstep in a day or so.

In response to the lighting question, no it doesn't play a factor. The condition originally came from the clam collecting raceways in vietnam that were kept in very poor condition. Barry from clamsdirect has since visited them and tried to correct the problem. My experience with prazipro was that it can be added directly to the reef tank with no side effects. Yes the protozoan can and is in the water column to some extent which explains how it is able to jump to all the clams in an infected system.

Glad to hear the Prazipro is working for you guys, I never would have guessed that it would. That's how advancements are made though, trying new things and finding out what works and what doesn't. So far the metro treatment seems to be doing OK in my QT, but not much different. If it doesn't work I'll probably consider doing Prazipro myself.

Chris, keep us updated on any new treatments. Sorry I hadn't come back in a while, been busy at school and I can't log on and check the forums there.

this isnt the best shot, but you can see his mantle is pinched on the left mantle in the middle. i dipped him a couple weeks ago and it is starting to come back again. i only dipped him for half an hour. sorry i dont have any better shots of him all PM'd.

Here was my clam about a week before I did a FW dip. It quickly got even worse than in this picture, but I erased the few pics I had of that situation because they were so depressing. (It looks a LOT better now though!)

Have been watching this thread as my 3" crocea has developed some PM- where the edges were folded there were small bubbles and an occasional vertical thread arising form the edge - some type of infestation.

I did a fresh water dip for one hour. Mantle is now completely unfurled, no edge manifestations like before. Hope I got what ever it was.

anyone got intructions on the FWD? im gonna order some medication, i already have metro but the other treatment sounds so much better.

FWD method I use:

I Use R/O water
Float a suitably sized container with the R/O water in the clams tank
Let temp equalize
Put clam in container (I used 1 hour)

I had to put the rock he was attached to in the FWD as well because he was very well attached and I didn't want to work to detach him
