To catch a Lion Fish..

Reeferon

I am having trouble catching my Lion Fish. He is in a 65 reef and he hides under the rocks when I go to catch him.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can catch him?

I got mine out with a combination of a net and a clear tupperware container. He could not see the tupperware, so used the net to cause him to swim into the clear container.

If yours goes right to the rocks as soon as your hands go in the tank, you may have to simply remove some rock...

good luck

I have one I need to catch that is going to another RC member. Mine is way too big to hide anywhere, 10-12", still kinda worried about catching him though. He will be going on a 2.5 hour car ride, so I am figuring on having him hungry at the time to not pollute his water and then transporting him in a big cooler.

Easiest way? Approach it non aggressively in an area with less space so that he swims backwards, and just make sure you have a second net behind him. They don't mind swimming backwards, and that really leaves them pretty vulnerable. The KEY is to get them to swim backwards.

try the tupperware method (just watch for the spines!). I highly discourage lifting a lion out of water using a net because they are likely to get spines stuck and broken off in the mesh.
