To early for Spring Turkey thread?

I was going to start this thread weeks ago, but didnt wanna jump the gun either lol. I have been counting the days for some time now. I will get one with the bow this year.

Our spring turkey season dates kind of suck. We get little (if any) time of the end of breeding season.

I see A LOT of deer while turkey hunting. Had two walk practically over me when I was on the edge of a field last year. They had no idea I was there. It was awesome!

my first year turkey hunting I counted 9 deer the first day I went out. sat in a very nice tree line where they would've never seen me, plus I never saw the deer as they were coming out from behind me. plus a buck minus the antlers (how do I know it was a buck-he was that close). kind of fun watching them snort at the decoys and bob their heads

I saw twin 4 pointers last year. One was real nervy, the other non-challont. It'll be interesting to see if they made it thru the season.

I picked up a mouth call for giggles. I'm God-awful but it was so worth it annoying my wife. Best $6 I ever spent.

I shoot a Diamond too. Black Ice. Not sure I'll get it out yet. I need to bag one with the shotgun first before I think about bustin it out.

the Diamond bow is an awesome looking bow...i still like the recurve though..I kinda feel like robin hood...or Diana from Greek mythology. Problem with the recurve is that you can't get the same speed as a compound.

Man o man. EVERY DAY on my way to work there is this HUGE Tom in this guys back yard with a couple of hens. He's alway in full strut like 20 yards off the road. It's kinda sorta residential, so he's very off limits even with a bow, but man does it get the juices flowin'!!

Last week I was on my way to work and saw a pretty big hen crossing the road. I stopped, waited, and when it got across I went to leave and my muffler at the time (just fixed it two days ago) was super loud and the darn thing spooked. It flew right into a window on a building that was mostly made of glass, died instantly. I tried to get ahold of the local dec office to get a tag for it but couldn't get through to anyone so I had to leave it. :( One of the wierdest things I have ever seen though. A customer I told the story to said he looked it up once and birds tend to do that because they are seeing the reflection of the sky in the window?

A little more than a week though. Cant wait! Good luck next weekend everyone.

my grandparents had ducks do the same thing about once a year at their cabin. i watched a bear get hit in colorado, called dow and they told me it would be about 8 hrs before they could send someone. had to walk away from 400 pounds of meat when i could have used it.

I'm so pumped for turkey season...I prefer it over over deer and bear hunting. I love the interaction...the calling and replying. I enjoy all the other wildlife that you see...besides almost getting stampeded by unknowing deer, last year I had to shuffle and yell at a 'yote that was going to sit in my lap!

Patterning the shottie this weekend.

A pic of my wall of shame and the tool of the trade.

Its a pic from last year, but here is my weapon of choice. I don't think I will ever hunt with a gun again. Deer or turkey.

Nice bow man! Yea I love bowhunting as well. I've only hunted turkeys with one once and I emptied my quiver at a flock that never knew what was happening due to the wind that day. Small targets they are lol.

I sooo prefer bowhunting deer over gun season. I love the quiet during early season!

i've been dying to get out and scout but the wife's work schedule isn't playing nice. i'm stuck at home with the baby. she promises i'll be able to get out a few nights this week and that sat and sun am are all mine!

Scouted hard late in the week. Not a single gobble on the 300 acre farm I was going to hunt, as far as I could hear. Talked to the farmer, he hadn't seen any on the property either.

Called my buddy who is out of town, but had several gobblers behind his inlaws where we hunted last year. I went there and was set up at 5 am. Didn't hear any gobblers roosted. I made a few clucks and waited. I heard footsteps. Figured it was a deer. 2 minutes later, 2 hunters walked by, almost directly over my decoys. Stunned they didn't see them. I let em pass. No biggie. Still like 5:20. They walked down to my right about 100yds and made a right hand turn into the woods. Then, I heard them looping back above me. Now I'm sitting almost directly, in my estimation, between them and my decoys.

Ever have one of those moments where your instinct kicks in and says, "This ain't a good situation Slim!" ???

Needless to say, I was home and back in bed by 6am. Friggin bust. I was so ****ed, but it's better than getting shot at.

Ahhhhhhh....that's annoying and I feel your pain. I worked one for about an hour yesterday but it wouldn't come closer than 75 yds....he was just working his strutting lane.

This morning I had 3 different birds gobbling but never saw a one.

borrowed a buddies shotgun late last night after getting the green light to hunt. went to walmart to find only the wrong size shells. I'll take my situation over yours though.

didn't make it out. scarey stuff cully. i bought this pocket size stobe light. my dumb butt seems to attract accidents. i don't jack around when it comes to other hunters in the woods. anyone comes near me, i light up like the po po

I went out. Didnt shoot a bird, but saw and heard a couple on more than one occasion. Turkey hunting for me is more leisure than anything, and if I shoot a bird its bonus. Hard to beat the woods in the spring time. (unless of course its the woods in the fall)

Had a yearling almost walk into my blind, then look up like "HUH?" only to turn around and b line the opposite direction.
