to get onyx clowns, would you do this?

yes, i didn't know these were called Onyx clowns.

i'm not very technical with my digital camera, sorry for the blurry pics but here's a closer pic:

those are about as onyx as they get and the one in the rear is really unique with that groovy white bar. Where did you get the pair?

Cheers,

Josh

The one in the back is what was sold to me as a "misbar", I bought the pair because of the misbar male, I just thought these were True Perculas.

I posted another thread and both replies so far didn't think these were Onyx Clowns but just True Percs.

they are true percs (Amphiprion percula), but as Fingerwrinkles used as an analogy for me, think of them like lab puppies or a litter of kittens, different colors possibilities in each litter. These are just color morphs of true percs. Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for this amazing pair?

Thanks,

Josh

PS: I lot of people would love to get a hold of that "mis-bar". Have you tried to breed them?

the misbarred one is really nice. i got a the pair for misbar onyx from rod and he just was going to up price but didn't on me. so he might of changed his mind.

how old is the pair? are they WC or tank breed?

thanks for sharing the pic

HKSTurbo28, awesome looking fish but they are again pecula morph, and theres nothing wrong with that, they are gorgeous. onyx is just another morph of percula as well but with some certain characteristics. but hey who cares, as long as you like the fish and enjoy it, its all good:)

as others asked, can you share the source? where did you get them from ? i am waiting for the weather to get better to order from rod but if i can find something like this locally, i would be delighted, so would my wallet be :P

Thanks everyone for the compliments!

I believe these were WC. I don't want to reveal the source because I am not sure if that violates RC rules but if you PM me, I will let you know. I just don't want to seem like I am throwing in a plug for any vendor.

okay gang,

Heres some pics of the the QT tank.

My plan: Pickup fish on Saturday if they look good and healthy and have been eating well. Acculate them to to the tank at 1.24 salinity with only 1/2 the 10gal full. Then maybe a fresh water dip or formalin? Into the tank then over 24hrs I'll bring the salinity down to 1.09. Daily 1gal water changes from established tank. I might throw a bag of chemi-pure in the tank (is it okay to just throw it in the tank? It's coming from my established tank). Then wait and observe. Thoughts, recommendations?

Specs
10gal
50wt heater
2 airstones
one divider (two fish that aren't paired yet)

I will soon add a couple flowerpots, then I think I'm done? Anyone have thoughts? Recommendations?

I'd hold off on dipping and hyposalinity unless you can see some signs of problems. Is the place you're picking the clowns from a reputable shop/person? I've found that FW dips can be very stressful to fish and I've read mixed things on wetwebmedia about the overall effectiveness of them. In either case, leave em be and observe them for 3 weeks or so. Good to see you using a QT!

i agree with norcal, if it aint broke dont fix it :) why do teh freshwater dip and the hyposalinity if the fish are healthy. put them in the tank, observe, if they show signs of problem then you can do all the dips and salinity measures. if they are fine in the QT then move them to the main tank and enjoy:)
btw, how long are you planning on Qt? 3-4 weeks?

I'm a little worried about the timing of the QT, I need to be out of town for a week at the end of march/april...I have roommates that can manage the standard fish care...but if they get sick...I'm not sure.

So I'm hoping for 2wks QT with them eating and looking great, introduce them to the main tank on week three, then out of town on week four...

i am no expert but i think 2 weeks should be enough. specially if the place you are buying from has a good reputation and system. good luck with the fish man. post pics once you get them

Well, they've acclimated and are looking happy! The store said they fought like cats and dogs through through the glass when they tried to pair them, I attached a video from 1min after I released them from their bags. They seem to really dig each other, neither will leave the other and they keep trying to rub through the divide. Cute little buggers huh? For the clown experts is this behavior promising?

Cheers,

Josh

things are really looking good. these fish have been a dream so far. I just put my hand in to move a flower pot the little guy swam right into it to cuddle...oh man I hope they stay healthy! Lots of character in this pair.

thats the original breeding onyx pair of Rod's. thats a beautiful pair.
klam, you were mentioning in another thread that you want to order rod's feed for your clown fish. any luck on that ?

I am trying to see if there was a market out here in the bay area to see if i could convince a local store to carry it, but it seem that there isn't a market out here.

I heard some great things about rod's food. you could look up the thread on rod's food. the claim is if you have great color clown it will bring out the color and also because the food is chopped to may sizes it will also feed you whole reef tank.

check it out

the reason is if you ordered it from premium aquatic it would be 19.99 then $10 more for the box and shipping. (tax)? would be alot to order one but if i could convince a store to carry rod's food. the bay area could get it for probably $19.99 at the store. please if you are interested write in the thrend that i posted. i want to be able to go to the store and say these are how many people that are interested in the food and can not get it out here. would you please carry this item. thank for the help guys.

i have heard great stuff about it as well. and i am interested in trying it. so if you want to convince a store to carry it or do a group order, count me in.
