To Golden Dwarf Moray owners...........

Has anyone had any of their livestock "missing" since add ing a dwarf moray to your tank? In the span of 2 weeks, I've lost my male Hawaiian Flame wrasse and 5 (yes 5!!!!) purple firefish. I know they're all jumpers, but no sign of them anywhere (checked the canopy, overflows, carpet, back of the tank etc.). I've had the golden moray for about 3-4 weeks.....the other fish I've had for over 8 months. Everything else in the reef is healthy and doing weel (cleaners, female flame, clowns). Any ideas what happened????

Sorry to say this, but they are fish eaters. I have used feeder damsels to get then eating in the past. But it is interesting to watch them catch a fish as long as its not your prize fish.

Keep in mind that your eel is a jumper as well. You need to complelety block any route unless you want to loose him as well.

I've lost large scarlet shrimps to mine in the past. If you can coax you're eel out, you should be able to see fishes that size in it's body.

I just got mine last week so he is still kinda small, maybe 7-8 inches but i dont think ive ever seen a fish that would fit in my GDM's mouth. How big is your GDM? That seems like alot of fish for a eel the size of a GDM to eat in 2 weeks. Is it possible the eel is just stressing them out and they are hiding most of the day?

How big was your wrasse? I can see it eating the firefish, but not the wrasse unless it was really small.

I also just got an 8 Inch Golden Dwarf Moray.... From Les in Hawaii....

I have a Small Red Firefish, Scotter Blenny, and Small Cleaner wrasse. I have seen them swim right by him with no problems...

IME. Moray eels will eat anything he likes. And would take a large bite of a fish when it cant fit into his mouth. Moray eels are opportunistic predators IMO.

Is this from experience with GDM or just moray's in generaL?

Can't really help you with your GDM, but I have a 15" Snowflake Moray in with 3 Pep Shrimp, 1 very small Green Mandarin, 1 4" Yellow Tang and 2 small damsels with no problems whatsoever. I just added the Mandarin a few days ago and watched it swim right in front of the eel's face, nothing happened.

Good luck with your eel!

Moray's in general. IMO,all of them are the same. They're really just predators that would eat any fish they want. Remember when a diver got bit a moray eel?

That's the funny thing.....the Flame was pretty decent size. Can't figure it out. His girlfriend is still in there along with a couple of other wrasses that are smaller than the one I lost.
