To much light too soon?

I just put a new baby BTA in my tank 2 days ago, about 1.5' - 2' across. In the store it looked healthy, kind of a cross between a pink and tan color, well inflated and a maroon clown hosting it pretty close. It was attached to a piece of rock about the size of your fist which I left it on. I drip acclimatized it in a gallon bucket for about an hour then put in the tank down in the bottom corner below where my Oc Clowns hang out. Clowns ignored it. About 6 hours later before I went to bed and only moon lights on slowly coralled the clowns down to the bta and the female made herself at home in the bta for a couple of minutes then left and I went to bed. The next morning the bta still looked fine with no clowns hosting it. I moved the rock with the bta to about half way to surface on top of existing rock then off to work. I came home at 10:30am and feed a piece of scallop about half the size of a pea to the bta and it quickily swalled it up, then I was off again. I kind of forget about the 2-150w mh's coming on from 11am-6pm. When I got home at about 9pm the bta's tenticals were all schriveled up and grey looking. My wife said it looked fine untill some time after 7:30 pm. Now this morning its tenticals have inflated some still with a gray colour, its mouth looks closed tight, and it never moved. All water test are very good. I do have some green algea. I never had a skimmer but a new remora is going on today that I just got in the mail. Is there anything in this process that I screwed up or that I can change to make my little bta happy?

Appreciate any feedback,Thanks,Rob.

They will get small and deflated about once a day. This is how they cycle water through them and also how they poo. Since you fed him earlier he could have been getting rid of waste. Just keep an eye on him but it sounds like normal behavior.

Thanks for the reply, went home at dinner time today and he looked great. Still wondering if I can leave my lights on full cycle?

Thanks,Rob.

Unless you see something wrong I think it will be fine in your normal light schedule. I imagine you'll see it move to a darker spot if it starts getting too much light.

I will try and get a picture, your critique would be great. I feed him a small piece of scallop every second day, is this ok? He hasn't moved at all since put in the tank. He has looked great (to me) for the past 24 hrs.

Thats great that your RBTA is accepting small pieces of scallops everyday. This will help your RBTA acclimate to your system faster.

Here's a picture just after another scallop feeding and now my Oc clowns are hosting it. Well this be to stressful on him. Is he to small and is it to soon for the clowns to be hosting him? How does he look?

Thanks,Rob,

My clowns are not rough at all with my BTA. Just watch them and see how they are with the anemone. The biggest thing is to not over react because they will change shape as they cycle old water out and new water in. If he doesn't come back to looking healthy then you may have some problems. As for now it looks good in the first picture IMO.

No Jeeperrs, this anemone is definately bleached and having the Occ hosting it will cause it to stress out more since its such a small anemone.

You'll have to put a strawberry basket or something over the anemone to guard it from the clowns.

Though, it doesn't look too terribly bleached...just a little bit, and it's quite small for a clown to be hosting it.

Agreed.

I think my clowns are really stupid, I moved the bta about 6" from where it was and now its like its not even in the tank, they don,t even notice it. They were stuck in it for about 2 days, more or less just lying in it, I never did see them feed it. The bta still seems to enjoy a nice piece of scallop every day. I did see him deflate again but it was for a very short period of time and the he was inflated again.

Thanks for the replies,Rob.
