To much light?

Par is photosynthetically available radiation. Yes, small clams need fed, but they also need very intense light. Many of us on here have grown small clams to adulthood, but it can be tricky.
It sounds like you have ordered clams already. If that is the case, you are going to need to get them appropriate lights ASAP.

Like I said before I'm not part of the MH authority here. I never push MH on anyone. I use T5, I love T5. I went T5 cause it showed benefits over MH, lower power consumption, less heat, less cost to run, people are having success with sps and clams with it.
Like the other members are saying it isn't about wattage.
But We're all about to find out since the clams are comming in.
For the record I have a 180 with 3x250 14k's on it as my main tank.I can also throw them in there.I jsut figured the sand bed is to far away and I would have to get them in and out of the tank if I wanted to feed them.I'm gonna try to get the par info on the light I have if I can. 10 of them should be here tonight
ya well f'me silly. If any of you know how the fish business goes you'd know your order what you want and you get what they ship you. Needless to say the stuff came in tonight and my guy mentions the smalls were not all available to get so they sent 3" instead and we'd work out the diff. So we open all the boxes of corals/fish etc.. , only got 1 giga and like 3 x 2-2 1/2" golds.So I might have to wait until next order at a minimum (aka next week or so) 
needless to say I am bummed out all this stinky and no clams
