To pair or Not to pair?

Pretty simple question on this one. I have heard horror stories of paired clowns freaking out and murder spree a whole tank. Most of my reading seems to point towards pairing being the best option. I'm new to the hobby, this is my first my tank, and my next purchase is to be a single or a pair of black clowns. Seems like i was told a load of bologne, so can you guys clear this up for me please?? Pros/cons of single vs. paired clowns? Suggestions, advice. Thanks in advance for any feedback

Clownfish are docile but some species can get large and can rule the tank but hardly a tyrant that kill everybody else.
Which species of black clowns?
A. polymnus can get big and aggressive. The Black variety of A. ocellaris and Onyx A. percula stay small and not at all aggressive toward other fish.
