I just got done Reading a article in coral magazine about how growing coralline algae on the back glass was a old school way to tell if your tank was doing well , and how clean glass gives the illusion of depth and gives a fresh look. I then looked at my tank
and No Sir I don't like it. I whipped out my razor scraper and went to work. So do you scrap or not ?

I am assuming you mean scrape, and I guess I am lucky and have a pretty good clean up crew that keeps the acrylic clean. I do use a magic eraser on the front occasionally just to make it extra pretty. I definitely think it looks better clean though.

You assume right. I fixed it thank you. Do you have urchins or some other coralline algae consuming part of your clean up crew?

I never used to. But I got tired of that look and scraped it clean the other day. I actually am not done yet. It was starting to really cloud the water there was so much.

I love tanks that have nothing but clean clear glass or acrylic. I admit I carry it to the extreme, but I even use a soft toothbrush to clean the silicone.

Who has time....

I'm lucky to keep the FRONT glass clean.

And yes, the amount of coverage is like a badge of honor...

i havnt had any corolline for about the first 7 months my tank has been running and since it erupted, i havnt cleaned the back because im just so happy that its finally thriving. Its now almost all covered. I just cleaned a part of one of the sides today for the first time since the corolline outbreak. It was too hard so i got lazy and went to the beach =)

I'm with the majority - scrape it off. IMO it doesn't look good and the coralline just sucks up calcium. JMO, DFM

She has REALLY clean tanks, hey Debbie ! It's Ryan :D

I scrape all mine off.

I think scraping does add more depth to the tank. One word of advice if you are going to scrape-try to do it weekly. If you let it build up, then it can be a real chore to try and scrape later.

Here's an old shot of one of my tanks... The new system I'm setting up will be clean on all 4 panels, I think :p
