To those interested in my old light

It's looking as though there won't be an old light :mad2: I bought a used light on here from a member and boy was I stupid !! The four square pin connectors had been cut as they pulled right out when we unfolded them from under the splash guard. We took the light apart to find some sort of plug in and there are NO wires running to the end opposite the fan. This person said they plugged the light in to check the bulbs..yeah right. How can you check what will not light up?!?!?! I am giving this individual until Monday to respond or I am filing a paypal claim. I know $175 isn't a ton for a light but it's a lot for me.

I contacted him the day I got the light to tell him the wires looked as though they had been cut. This was on or about the middle of September. I'd have to check the exact date. He swore they weren't. I have the ad where he said the light worked good and that it only had 2 bulbs that worked. He said he was selling without the bulbs because they were so old. This was a blatant lie as the lights can't work without wires attached ! He is a member here and I bought it through here. I did pay with paypal but unfortunately not my cc. I pray he will do the right thing so I don't have to make a big fuss but I will if he doesn't.

If I don't hear from him by the time I get home from work tomorrow he will hear from paypal. Due to overwork and other factors, we weren't able to take it apart until last night. I do believe it can be re-wired but dang it, it's the whole point of the matter. It just makes me so mad that someone would knowingly do something like this. I have purchased quite a few things from RC without a single problem but boy has this one soured me.

What type/size light fixture was it?
I had just bought a 48" T5 fixture for my 33L and it was shipped complete with 4 bulbs fans legs and 4 x moon lights for $200.
I know this dosen't help your problem but helps to look around or ask local's what they have or have had.
If you need any help on rewiring the fixture I will gladly help. I hope that your problem can be resolved.

Ade

It is a 72" Current light with 5 led moonlights and a fan on one end. All that was supposed to be wrong with it was 2 leds burned out and 1 leg broken. No biggie to fix and for the money it was worth it.

My problem is running only PC's on a tank that size. Most have either 48" or smaller lights or metal halides which I don't want to run. It's pretty much a fowlr tank with a few button polyps and mushrooms ( my dang emperor will eat anything else) so PC's are fine.

And thank you so much Ade for the offer on the wiring. I am going to play "wait and see" on thig guy for the moment. If he wants me to ship it back for a full refund I will. He better plan on paying the return shipping also as it will not be cheap for something that size and weight.

So are you relaying all of this to him in some other forum ? Are you staying in contact with him by other means? ...Just curious .. I guess if he is a member then he may read this but they may not ...

I am sending him pm's through here. He isn't a member of or local forum but I really didn't want to blast him in the feedback IF he responds to me. I had a couple people interested in my old light that are local and I just wanted to let them know that things are not going to well as far as switching out lights. Should I say something in the feedback forum tomorrow or should I wait and see what he opts to do?

I would say make every effort to handle it ammicably ... It really sucks to buy something that was from what it sounds like Grosely misrepresented.... Keep us posted... Hopefully they will handle it and make things right ... Good luck

Just wanted to let you know you are not alone. I purchased a 125 tank setup from a member back in june and was told he didn't have the glass tops there but he would bring them up to me the following weekend. That was over three months ago and I am still trying to get my tops so I can use my tank. I guess once you pay your money some folks don't care anymore, what a shame. But, I understand how you feel. Good luck on getting your matter resolved though.

The guy did contact me through here and email today. He swears the lights worked. He is saying something about sabotage by "pak n mail". Guess thats a play on Pack and Mail. He said he would file a claim with them but I don't know how long that will take and if they will buy that someone in their store "sabotaged" a customer's package. Mercy but I don't know what to do. I am beyond ticked and trying to believe him but it is hard. I think paypal has a 30 day claim time frame so do I wait until the 11th hour and file or try and be patient ? I refuse to go out with a whimper over $175 dollars.

Boy oh boy, this guy is something. He just sent me a PM saying that he couldn't get back to the store he shipped from before they closed BUT, he would be gracious enough to give me back $100 and that would be fair for both of us. Fair? Yeah right ! I pay $75 for a light that has no wires, a fan that will only hum and not turn, 5 out of 6 led's working, and broken legs. Sorry but NO ! I told him that he would either refund $150 of my money ( I will give $25 for the light even though that's too much) or I will file a paypal claim for the entire amount+ the cost of shipping this thing back to him. Am I correct on my end? Also, should I let this go when he refunds me or should I flame him in buyer/seller feedback ?

I think as far as leaving him feedback on the selling forum, just tell the truth. It sound like he is a piece of work. I hope that he is not local. FYI I would never buy anything used from someone that I didn't know. There is a lot of trust involved when buying used stuff and there are a lot of people out there looking for that easy buck. Please keep us posted. Maybe a road trip is in order to pay this guy a visit. :-)

LOL...you have a point Ade. He is in Florida and that is where I am originally from. I still have a lot of "Next of Kin" type relatives down there. One doesn't own snakes but he has a ton of big iguanas :0)

Well here is the update I was hoping I did not have to make. I was ripped off, plan and simple. He is only refunding $100 of the $175 stating that all I had to pay for was shipping. Unreal. This is the last time I trust anyone on here ( other than the fantastic people I have bought from on this local forum) for buying anything. I am going to file a dispute with paypal and try to get it all back but who knows. I will also post this transaction in the buyer feedback so others will know to steer clear from this crook. I am so angry that someone can do this and just be so "oh well, too bad so sad". Then again, he is the one that has to look at himself in the mirror everyday and not me !

Well there is now a light but it isn't the one I had planned on. I took the own I got from here to Anthony at my LFS and he said the reason the wires were cut was the guy took out the ballasts. I know squat about lights so I just thought there were just cut wires. Soooooooo...if anyone is looking for a 72" housing with a reflector I have one unless Anthony can figure out an inexpensive way to rig this thing.

i would not touch it , file a claim with pay-pal ASAP they will refund your money as long as you are paypal verified , dont touch the light or do anything to it , you will get your money back as like i said before as long as you are verified---

I only could have wished. I did file and they said they ONLY cover something not shipped. I couldn't believe that ! From now on I pay for anything over $20 with my CC. At least I can file a claim and get my money back then. This has just really soured me from buying anything else on here. I have purchased a few things with no trouble whatsoever but nothing this expensive. The other sellers were fantastic about describing what they had and some even followed up to make sure I was happy. Then here comes this guy....sigh.

Final update on the light. I was stupid, yep, STUPID. I tried to get a deal and I paid for it. So now there will be 2 lights I don't need. I am doing what I should have done in the first place and buy a new one. I just was trying to save a little money. SO if anyone has any need for 2 72" pc lights...well one pc light and one 72" shell, let me know.
Ade...you can bet your behind I will only purchase from locals or new from now on.
NbMaxx...I have never had to force myself to be that amicable. It felt like my head was going to explode !! I guess because I have kids his age it was a little easier..lol

Dang, thats too bad.

I've had good experiences with people on RC, but . . . I hear ya, dealing with people face-to-face is the best way to go.

So who is this jack-@ss? Bash away!
