To Vacuum or not to Vacuum

I have a 2" sand bed in my Display tank with a 5" sand bed in my Ref/sump I know I should not touch the one in the sump but should I do anything to the bed in the tank? I have had 2 sand sifting gobys who have both died and I was wondering if I can leave it alone or will it cause a problem?

You can siphon clean it if you want. That'll remove animals that make it live, but that might not matter to you. If it's looking okay, there's no need to clean it, though. I don't clean my sand.

leave the sand, no point in having it if you vaccum it, jsut get some nassaurus snails and leave it alone, it will benefit your tank in many ways.

I sometimes just swirl the surfae of different areas on mine- sometimes with the overflow from a turkey baster. Do not know if that is good or bad, but it makes it look nice.... YMMV.

I would get a few sand stirring animals like nassarius and cerith snails. They do a good job keeping the substrate clean and mixed up.
