I have a large Toadstool leather and a Damsel has taken a bite out of him, He has been closed up four weeks now, I don't think it's dead, how long can they stay closed up?

Thanks for the help

John

They can stay closed for a while, but the damsel may be pecking at it and keeping it from opening.

As long as the leather is not falling apart, it will probably be ok.

The one that did the damage had a terrible accident, but your right I have others in the tank. What happens to the leather when a piece is picked off. Is that part of the leather a blank spot, or does it grow back.

Thanks John

Well, no need to be concerned about other Damsels, they have been removed from the tank, just have a Nemo now, will have to wait and see I guess

The leather should recover if given good water conditions and flow.

Leathers have amazing regenerative abilities, and short of a complete melt down will usually make a complete recovery.

Strange that the damsels were messing with it though... what type of damsels were they?

Yellow tail and a black and blue with a silver stripe, not sure what his name is, but he is bigger than the yellow tail, and a real meanee. I hope he makes it but, four weeks with out eating, he's about six inches across when open.

Thanks for your help.

John
