Toadstool Question

I just recently bought a toadstool for my 90 gallon reef. The toadstool was doing great in the store with all of the polyps out but since being in my tank the polyps have not come out yet. The Toadstool is on one of my highest rocks closer to the light. The lighting is a Nova Extreme T-5 8x54. Do you know why this happening? How can I fix this?

Toadstools usually takes it's time to get used to it's new environment. Mine didn't start to come out till after a week and a half of being in my tank

Thanks Rcerna280, thats what I have been hearing about these guys. Hopefully he comes out in about a week.

Leathers will at times "take a nap" and not put out polyps for a couple days or even

longer. After a while they shed a thin skin, put out the polyps and look like

new again. It's their way of getting rid of algae and detritis that settles on them. Keep

an eye on it and maybe point a powerhead toward it and see if that helps it slough off

the old skin.

Her is mine Green Tip Toadstool. I bought is as a frag in 2008.

You may need to acclimate it to your light. T5s are incredibly intense, so it might just be too much too soon. Otherwise, like has already been said, they take a while to adjust.

Ditto on above. I usually start things lower than they generally need and move them up over time (if needed) to make for an easier transition. Most LFS' I've seen usually max out the life of their bulbs (sometimes by magnitudes of life spans), so even though there is light in their tank, there is no guarantee of the quality. As has been stated, though, leathers are notorious for closing up for short to extended periods of time only to 'rebloom' into their former glory.

my Tyree Neon Green toadstool is on the bottom of my tank... started him as a small frag, and he took almost 2 weeks to start extending his polyps.

NH3:0
NO2:0

Based on above water parameters, my toadstool looked like this for about a week. Previous owner had this for about a year and his NO3 was near 100ppm.

Here is the photo from yesterday. Toadstool leather is slowly acclimated and now shows more tips. Now I'm Just wondering if the leather tentacle extend any longer than the picture below. Anyone care to share fully extended leather tentacles? Thank you.
